Queens and animals

A flood of color

Smiles and cheering

Support for one another

Superheroes in their capes

Drowning out the voices

Of those who use their God of love

To spread their hate

Diversity and unity

Togetherness

Where prejudice was set aside

And people came together

A people who have gone through a hellstorm

A people who celebrate themselves

A people who will take the intolerance no longer

A people who embrace themselves and their beauty

There are some who

Have had to change their bodies

So that their body could match their mind

So that they could be happy

There are some who

Have been forced to ignore messages from those close to them

So that they could feel free to love who they loved

So that they could be happy

There are some who

Have had to make themselves unresponsive to the cries of "You can't love two people!"

So that the could feel free to love

So that they could be happy

There are some who

Have had to learn to be proud in their lack of desire

So they could feel as valid as they are

So that they could be happy

Once upon a time

This movement was illegal

It was illegal to embrace this diversity

This love

And so we thank our ancestors

At Stonewall

At every other protest for our rights

So that we might come together today

And so we will remember those are lost

From hateful violence

Or a darkness inside that spoke too loud

They will never be forgotten

And the celebration is not only about the beauty in every spirit

But in remembrance of those we've lost

In hope for what's to come

And honor for the journeys people have traveled to get here

This is why I wave my flag
