A/N

A repost of what originally was a fanfiction in the Assassins Creed universe (and is still up), the story has changed a lot since then and I figured I'd upload the newest version here to hopefully gain some more viewers since Deviant Art is not exceptionally favorable to writers.

This story doesn't fit into a singular category but is an Alternate Historical Fiction/Sci-Fi blend in which Earth (known galactically as the Dying Planet for reasons revealed in the story) is connected to my main planet Kelusia via portals. The time period on Earth is the 18th Century but the rest of the galaxy is more advanced than modern day. Makes for interesting plot devices such as lightbulbs and indoor plumbing. If you have any questions, do ask them! I know my story universe but I don't know what confuses people/what to better explain!

All that said, enjoy this messy tale!

Location List

Aetheria: A mystical realm that includes both the Godlands, Afterlifes, and Dreamlands. Seven levels make up this magical realm, the two extremes (Apex and Abyss) only accessible by gods and goddesses, the middle three (Sanctuary, Between, and Dark Depths) being accessible in dreams and through selective waking portals, and the final two (Beyond and Void) serving as infinite lands of the afterlife.

Fort Creeksbend: A British frontier fort located near Boston, Massachusetts. Commanded by Captain Sean Brown.

Fort Wolfsbane: A British frontier fort located near Boston, Massachusetts. Commanded by Captain Allen McCain.

Fox Run Inn: A tavern frequented by frontiersmen and located near Boston, Massachusetts.

Kelusia: An Earth-like planet orbiting the star Avon Prime in the Stone's Throw Star System. Slightly larger than Earth, days last 26 hours rather than 24 and the overall temperature is slightly colder allowing for larger ice caps at each pole. The Bleak North and Bleak South, as the two poles are called, make up two of the seven continents with the others being Mysteria (smallest), Alphiana, Itheria, Mainlandia (largest), and Humalera.

Ragerya: An Earth-like planet orbiting the star Avon Prime in the Stone's Throw Star System. Slightly smaller than Earth, the overall temperature is slightly hotter as well. The major landmasses are all connected into one continent known as Nima, which means "Place of Survivors" in the language of the main species, Rageryans. A massive extinction-level volcanic event destroyed much of the planet's surface aside from select areas protected by magic such as the Moa'lou islands.

The Between: The middle level of Aetheria, serves as the halfway area between light and dark, waking and sleeping. An island in the center of a shallow sea starts as jungle along the coast and turns into hardwoods then pines the closer one gets to the central pond from which the top of the Dark Depth's volcanic mountain protrudes. The shallow sea is surrounded by forests that follow the rule of the island and lead to impossibly tall cliffs that stretch up into the sky which resembles a rippling sheet of water and completely encircle the sea like a massive crater. Within these cliffs are said to be portals to various lands, both natural and supernatural.

The Dark Depths: The fifth level of Aetheria, home to the source of all nightmares. Many deceased creatures who still have grudges against those living roam here. Seemingly located in a massive cavern, different environments are separated by rivers of blood like sections on a wheel around a sea of blood. In the middle of this sea emerges a massive volcanic mountain that stretches to the roof of the cave which leads to the level above. Deep within the core of the volcanic mountain a pit leads to the level below. The living can be summoned here to train with the evil dead, after which they gain the name "Cursed One". Take care, for if you die here you die for real.

The Sanctuary: The third level of Aetheria, home to the source of all good dreams. A ring of biomes encircles an unfathomable chasm full of floating islands, twisting waterfalls, and zero gravity. The centerpiece is a massive tree on a floating island with a lake in the middle at the top that leads down to the Between and a beam of wavering and twisting ice blue light that leads up to the Beyond. The sky is like the night sky, full of stars and auroras as is the water surrounding the islands, and beyond the islands the sky turns many colors like the sky at sunrise. Twisting beams of moonlight and hovering deep violet orbs illuminate the land. Some of the good dead roam here from time to time, and it is also where the Star Swimmers and Ancients occasionally meet with still-living mortals.

Species List

Alphian: One of the top species of Kelusia. Originally created by Sheldon Stienfrank to be a race of warriors, Alphians are part-animal, part-human and have four primary forms; Omega (look fully human), Beta (human apart from their animal tail, animal ears, animal lower legs, and eyes with no white), Alpha (anthro animal), and Feral (animal). Possess a number of in-human abilities such as heightened senses and instincts, ability to speak to animals, an Elemental power, high resistance to most weapons, and thirteen lives.

Ancient: A lesser god or goddess who rule over certain aspects of mortal life on a particular planet. Tauroid creatures that exist outside the laws of time, they reside in Aetheria but occasionally choose to walk among the living in the form of one of their planet's species.

Depth Demon: A supernatural creature known for their sadistic nature who resides purely in the Dark Depths. Often, quiet accurately, described as pure nightmare fuel, a Depth Demon can strike terror into even the bravest of hearts. They can probe into the minds of their victims and transform into their victim's worst nightmare. While not shifted, Depth Demons are truly horrifying. Tall, nearly 9'0", and muscular yet horribly malnourished, Depth Demons lack any skin on their face, which resembles the skull of a predatory species, and have only exposed bone. Tar oozes from their empty eye sockets, evaporating before hitting the ground. Two sets of horns sprout from their heads, a mane smoke, fire, and ash wreathes around their neck, dozens of tentacles of pure shadow stem from their back, both their hands and feet bare long wickedly sharp claws including an inner sickle claw on their feet, their tail is an adder with eyes of molten lead, and fire brighter than a planet's core burns within the Depth Demon's chest and the light of which escapes through slits in the monster's chest.

Kelusine: A large feline species with saber teeth and a thumb in place of a dewclaw that range between three and six feet at the shoulder depending on subspecies (Islander, Plainer, Forester, Mountaineer, and Wastelander). Like many Kelusian species, Kelusines have the ability to speak Basic as well as their own language. Both sexes sport manes, although females are noticeably smaller.

Rageryan: A large, adaptable, and strong-willed species originating from the planet of Ragerya. With two recognized subtypes, the quick Equatorials and strong Polars, Rageryans possess an exceptionally fast healing rate, no concept of personal space, a supernatural power (in rare cases two), and an ability to shift into a bipedal dragon species. Like Alphians, they originated from humans but their evolution was partly natural and partly a result of divine intervention after a terrible sickness was released on their planet.

Star Swimmer: A high god or goddess who rules over certain aspects of mortal life on a particular planet that they also created with another Star Swimmer who they have made their mate. Star Swimmers are Tauroid creatures whose fur, scales, or skin gleam with the light of colored galaxies and nebulas. Like their children (Ancients) Star Swimmers exist outside the laws of time and reside in Aetheria but occasionally choose to walk among the living in the form of one of their planet's species.
