The rest of the school day goes smooth as butter. As soon as I was leaving school, Alex taps my shoulder.

"Hey, do you want to go somewhere after school like a place to eat at? You can meet my mom and my little brother."

"I'm not sure if my mom would approve this but she's always too busy. Yeah, I'll go with you."

"Sure, I just wanted Monika to know that all of her friends are coming."

Oh, great I didn't want to face Lexie again after that incident at lunch but that's life I guess. At least Neptune's pretty chill.

I then walk with Alex who meets up with Cameron, Monika and everyone else at the coffee shop.

"Hey, Mom!"

"Hey, sweetie. Your brother has been waiting for you for a while."

"Jason's always impatient. I met a girl today who just moved from Japan."

I knew that he was talking about me so I sheepishly introduced myself to Alex's mother and Jason.

"Hello, my name is Kaede. I'm a 7th grader who likes fortune-telling and astrology. It's nice to meet you, Miss..."

"Duncan." She replied.

Jason then runs from the back of the cafe and starts to hug me in his Cheeto Covered Hands. Cheeto Dust gets all over my cape and it looks disgusting.

"Alex, remind your brother to wash his hands before giving affection to others."

"Yeah, I forgot to tell you beforehand but he has severe autism."

"Oh, I'm sorry about that. Can he speak in full sentences like us?"

"Yeah surprisingly."

"Can we order something? My mom got me some American Dollars to use for the vending machine at school but I didn't use them."

"This cafe serves Milkshakes in the Summer. I think you'll enjoy them."

"Yeah, I'll try one."

"Okay, I'll order a Vanilla for you."

I give him some money. Alex and the others head to the order line and leave me alone with his little brother. Jason pulls on my leg to get me to talk to him.

"Hey! I heard you were a fortune teller! Could you predict my future?"

"Yeah but I'm going to ask your mom if that's okay."

Miss Duncan is busy working on her laptop. I dunno how to get her attention so I speak as loud as I can.

"Miss, your son asked me if I could predict his future and I wanted to know if that's okay with you."

She looks up from her work and simply replies.

"Yeah, I'm fine with that. He is very superstitious so don't scare him."

"Thank you."

I turn to see Jason glowing with happiness. Here we go.

I pull my hood over my head and I pull my crystal ball out of my bag. I set the ball on the table.

"Okay, young sir. What aspect of your future do you want to see? Any question will do."

"W-When am I going to die?"

What the hell? I didn't expect this from a 7-year-old who has a huge life in front of them. I take a deep breath and continue.

"Why do you wish to ask this question, young child?"

"I just want to know when am I going to say goodbye to my loved ones before I head on to the afterlife."

That seemed reasonable but I'm still shocked this came from a 3rd grader. Autistic People don't really like surprises. Immediately, I focus on my crystal ball to receive my answer. Then the vision comes up in a mix of shock and sadness. I then share my vision in excruciating detail.

"The time in which you die is...24 hours from now by falling from a tree and breaking your neck."

"Is this true? Mommy says that there is a lot of crime in this area."

"Yes, unfortunately..."

"I'm sorry but all of my predictions that end with disaster always come true."

Jason starts to cry and throws a tantrum.

"I-I don't wanna die yet! I've haven't done much yet!"

Miss Duncan tries to comfort him and looks at me angrily but with fear mixed in as well.

"Great Kaede, now I have to deal with a screaming child. If it's true that's going to die in 24 hours, I would like you to help us evade it."

"'Evade it? I guess I will help you with that. My best guess to keep a close eye on him and/or leave the state asap until it's taken care of. Take an Uber if you can or don't do so. Lots of people die in car accidents. "

"'I'm sorry that I upset him."

"It's not your fault, he gets like this sometimes."

Alex comes back with two vanilla milkshakes with confusion on his face.

"What's wrong? I heard Jason screaming."

"I had a vision that happened 24 hours from now of Jason falling to his death. Your mom will be taking a trip out of the state with him."

"You're helping him cheat death? You're a psychic? My parents are huge believers of the supernatural and very superstitious. I hope this doesn't backfire. "

"Yeah, I told your mom that."

"Wait, why doesn't your little brother go to school? Is he home schooled?"

"My mom doesn't trust the Special Education here after what happened and got the school into legal trouble for mistreating him. Long Story but now she teaches him at home with a special teacher."

"Yikes, no one should treat him like that."

Neptune and Lexie come over to me talking to Alex drinking two decaf lattes.

"Hey, Kaede. What's with all this banshee-like screaming? Was it Jason reacting badly to what you did."

"I'm going to say this short as possible but yes. I had a terrible vision about him."

"Oh no, I feel you. How about you have some of that milkshake? Sweet foods make me happier."

I accept Neptune's advice and take a sip of my milkshake. It was cold and much sweeter than bubble tea. Lexie forcefully grabs my wrist.

"You think Alex's retarded little brother threw a fit over a little vision you had? It shouldn't be made into a huge deal, It's a just stupid daydream you had."

"Woah Lexie,calm down!"

I say nothing to her. I don't want her to get me riled up. So instead, I headed for the exit of the cafe. I open my phone to see thousands of unread messages from my mom.

"Sorry that I have to leave. My mom said I had to head home."

"Okay, see you on Monday!" Monika gleefully said with a smile on her face.

I turn around and leave. I see Miss Collin and Jason immediately get into a car and then suddenly drive off. I think nothing of it. I read my messages from Mom and regret not reading them right away. They are written in a distressed tone due to the number of typos. I call my mother.

"Sorry if I wasn't on my phone. It was dead."

"Well, where were you?"

"I went to a cafe with my friends! I wasn't assigned any homework!"

"Come home right now!"

"'Why?"

"It's about your cousin, Jolene. She's gone missing. She wasn't at the school when Nao picked her up from Chess Club."

No, Not her. I run all the way home and slam the door open. My mom and my sister looked at me with shock. I sit down on the couch next to Touko.

"W-What happened to Jolene?"

"Well, I talked to the last person who saw her. He saw her walk into the woods. The last thing he heard from her was that she's walking home since her parents were late picking her up."

The Woods, that's not a good place to walk in. Oh, she's a goner for sure.

"Did you call the police about this?"

"Yes, she's on the missing person case board. I hope that she is in good shape."

I look at Touko and whisper in her ear.

"Let's go look in the woods for her at the elementary school."

"Sure but I have to snag the keys first."
