Chapter 1: Name

I blinked and tried to focus, everything was blurred before my eyes. I had no idea where I was and how I got there. With another blink, I looked around, thinking that I might remember what had happened, but I didn't recall anything.

The room looked like a cave, with a round stone ceiling. The bulb hanging on a black thick cord was the only light source. I sat on a wooden chair and the man who asked for the name was standing nearby. Otherwise the space was empty. The door had to be behind me because I couldn't see it from where I sat.

The man sighed, as if he had been waiting for minutes, not just a few seconds.

I felt disoriented and my head ached. I was cold.

"Name?" He repeated impatiently and tapped the pen on the blue folder he held.

I frowned and then even more when I realized I didn't know my name. How the hell can I not know? Where am I? What had happened? Who's the man?

I realized that I couldn't remember what I had been doing yesterday or a month ago. I couldn't remember if I had any family, friends, or how I used to spend my time.

My heart pounded wildly and I started to panic.

"Where am I? What did you do to me? Why can't I remember anything? "

The man made a note.

I jumped out of the chair so hard that it almost toppled. I intuitively wanted to go to the door behind me, but I stopped immediately. I glanced around wildly, then headed for one of the walls and felt it crazily until I walked around the room and back to my original position.

However, I didn't find any door. Neither a handle nor a window, nothing. I was trapped.

"What the hell is going on? I threw myself at the man and took him by the shirt. But it didn't seem to bother him. He stared at me silently, then removed my hands from his black T-shirt and watched me closely.

"What do you want from me?" My voice sounded strange, too high, too hysterical. I had a bile in my throat and my head gave me a craze. I was breathing badly. I was close to tears.

The man made another note. I ripped the folder from his hand and threw them against the wall. "What's your point? Is this an experiment? Or a test? "

"Name?" He repeated for the third time.

"I don't know my name!" I yelled at him, waving my hands helplessly. "I don't know, okay? I don't know! How come I don't know ?!"

I wanted to strangle him, but in the end I just kicked a chair which flew to the wall. I had no choice. I calmed down a little, my head was pounding, my brain was working at full speed. I had to get out of here and he was my only hope. He knew something, otherwise he wouldn't have those stupid records and be so unbearably calm.

"Ellie" I said the first name that came to my mind. I don't know why Ellie, why not Elizabeth, Marketa or Kristyna. Just Ellie.

"Ellie," he repeated, picking up the folder and continuing with a statement that chilled me. "Welcome to the Underworld."
