Should Have Listened

Deed in the woods, dropped in a lake, out in a meadow, or down in a field.

I hear my mother calling even though I hear I do not answer, for I cannot.

She told me not to go and she must know why, or she would not cry.

If only I would have listened. I would be alive.

If I could have swallowed my pride and stayed inside.

No! I had to be right that is why I lie dead tonight.
