According to professional educator and organizational leadership expert Jeffery Whippo, one of the biggest responsibilities of a leader is to ensure fair and equal treatment of his or her followers. He states that the famous Stanford prison study brings light to the bullying paradigm that can be very evident within today's workplace. Jeff says that "with so much attention on bullying in the media these days, the Stanford prison experiment reinforces that leaders should be doing everything they can to ensure that these behaviors do not become social norms, whether in schools, businesses, or any other organizational or social structure."
Jeffery Whippo strongly believes that if the social and environmental structure of an organization is set up to support and allow these types of behaviors, not only will they occur, they will flourish. He further says that while bullying may be attributed to the behavior of a single individual, leaders must focus on how group psychology not only contributes to these behaviors, but constructs an environment from which these behaviors will feed and grow. He has personally witnessed leadership bullying in previous companies that he has worked with and understands the negative impact it has on the psychology of the business as a whole.
