I'm Over Him

I'm over him,
So why can't I shake off this residue of jealousy that coats my mind,
Clouds my vision with poisoned desire,
Sticks to my tongue in this bitter film?

I'm over him,
So why do I catch myself competing for his attention and waiting for his smiles like a pilgrim,
Keeping her night-long vigil on her knees
Before the altar, yearning for sunrise?

I'm over him,
So why can't I let go of him?
He has no place in my future, and yet
I cling to potential yesterdays as I drown myself in uncertainties.
I cling to him and he sinks me, drags me down from where I wish I could be.
