Mondays were not my favourite days. It was the only day where I had two classes back to back, and they also happened to be my hardest classes.
I came out of my lecture hall building debating whether or not I should head to the library. As soon as I took a couple of steps outside, I saw Raina sitting on a picnic bench not so far way.
She looked like she was taking notes. She always looked very focused with her earphones on.
She only had one class today so I'm surprised she didn't go home.
I made my way towards her. I usually didn't talk to Raina on campus a lot but today just felt different.
"Hey, you're still here?" I said as I sat down beside her.
She looked up, but then back down at her notes, "Yeah," she said softly.
"You okay?" I said.
She nodded, "I'm just tired."
I knew something was wrong. I'm just tired, was always code for something. I wasn't gonna push it though.
I looked up and saw two large coffee cups on the table.
"I know you have a coffee obsession, but this might be overboard," I said pointing at the cups.
"Actually," she said pointing at the coffee cup, "That one was for you."
"Really?" I said kind of shocked.
"Yeah," she nodded, "A thank you for the delivery."
"You didn't have to thank me, you're doing me the favour," I shrugged. One side of me thought she was an idiot for buying me a coffee. I clearly didn't deserve one. The other side of me was kind of happy that she did. Raina always got my brother things, never me.
"It's cold now anyways," she said.
I looked at the coffee cup and took it anyways. I took a sip of it. It was cold, but it still tasted good.
"I won't ever say no to caffiene," I shrugged.
She looked at me and faintly smiled.
Her smile then faded away as she put her hand in her pocket.
She took out a phone - my phone - and placed it on the table.
"Where did you get that fro..." It finally clicked in my head, "Carter gave it to you."
She nodded, "By the way, I think you should change your password."
Did Carter do something to my phone? I quickly put in my password and saw that the first thing that popped up was a message to Raina.
"Fuck..." he said, "What did he do to you?"
Raina scoffed, "Carter can't do anything to me anymore. He just wanted to talk for some reason."
Raina shook her head, "I would rather drink bleach."
"Dark..." I said nodding. She said it so calmly too, but I knew Carter was getting to her.
"I'll talk to him then," I told her, "I'll tell him to lay off."
Did I actually say that? I thought. I usually never bothered to get in between Raina and Carter. Then again, Carter messaging her through my phone was kind of messed up. He knows she doesn't want anything to do with him.
"Don't," Raina said, "I don't need this being a big deal. Plus, he's your friend. I'm not going to put you in the middle of this."
"I think it's too late for that," I said.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"He helped me deliver your cupcakes this morning."
Her eyes widen, "Did you get it there on time?"
"Yes, yes of course," I confirmed, "Mrs. Gladys was so happy she offered me a cup of tea."
Raina looked like she was about to jump me in anger, but soon calmed down.
She laughed a little bit.
"She call you a sweetheart too?" Raina muttered quietly.
"Yup," I grinned, "She ain't wrong though."
Raina gave me a faint smile as she started to close up her notebook.
"Listen, if delivery is going to be a problem, we can call this off."
I would have been happy to hear that, but instead I felt guilty. She did me this HUGE favour, and the least I could do was repay her.
I shook my head, "I might be a lot of things Raina, but I don't break my promises."
Raina looked at me and smiled, "You are a lot of things Maty, but we'll see about this. I have a delivery on Friday. Don't lose your phone."
Maty...it was different when she called me that.
Raina took her bag and her textbook and started walking across campus.
I couldn't help but stare at her until she entered a building.
I think today was the longest Raina and I talked in awhile...even if it was about her ex.
