"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."
(Ralph Waldo Emerson)
Sometimes we feel so different from other people and utterly alone. We wish that others could see into our soul and perceive all the emotions inside of us - our pain, sorrow and confusion but also our love, joy and happiness. But fear can be a very powerful agent. Our fear of rejection, of having love taken away if we speak our mind petrifies us and we stay in the cage we have constructed for our safety, praying for the seemingly impossible - someone who truly sees and understands us.
So what are we to do?
Break free from our cage!
Fight for what we believe in! Fight for who we are and want to be! Fight to be truly seen by those we love so that they might decide if they really love us or just loved the parts we let them see.
It will not be easy. We'll be afraid but deep down we know that this is the only way forward. Enough time spent pretending and seeking other's approval, hoping to be loved. It is time to fully embrace who we are and see where that leads us. No more hiding, no more bending, no more making ourselves small. The time has come to let go of fear and embrace the courage deep inside, freeing us from our cage so that we may truly become ourselves.
