Tomorrow will be no different.
This is what the nameless man thought as he slumped into bed with his already asleep wife. It will just be another repetitive day that will keep repeating until I die, or, if I live long enough, until I retire. Only thirty-seven more years to go.
He turned his head on the pillow. He didn't feel like falling asleep, but it found him anyways. As did the nameless spirit, in a good way.
The man opened his eyes. The only thing he could focus on was a two-foot long being floating above him and holding a wand. Was it a wand? It could be a staff. Was it the middle of the night? Yes, it was. Must still be.
Normally, when encountered with something so suddenly, the man should have been frightened. With this, however, he felt nothing. He just lay there in his bed while both he and the creature staring at him waited for him to speak.
It took a few seconds for him to find his voice. Then, he whispered softly so as not to waken his wife.
"W-who are you… fairy?"
He didn't know how the word arrived into the world, but it made the creature give him a pitying look and shake its head; something that made the man feel bad, but not bad enough to apologize.
The creature, who was already close, leaned in even closer. This was it. He didn't know why, but he now knew this would be the single most definitive moment of his life.
"Watch."
Oh, that voice. Everything he had been missing in his life, and infinitely more! The effect was like-
And then she touched him. Not his wife, but the creature. Her. She. Right in his chest right in the center. A gift.
Suddenly the bed disappeared. Everything did, even her body, though he knew she wasn't gone. In its place, the entire galaxy appeared before him. Not his galaxy, nor hers. God's galaxy.
It was so beautiful.
It was too much. He screamed. He felt so insignificant in this glory. And then he screamed again, because no one heard him No one. And he kept screaming, but in a serene way, because he knew she was with her.
And they stayed there until he fell asleep.
And then she left him until he died.
And the he woke up in his bed in the morning.
THE END.
