A Sonnet on Would Be Heroes

When shades and wraiths on dusky nights below
The stars with blazing incandescent light
And wisps of black obscure sunset and low!
With flint on steel a spark new lights the night
An amber dream come true it seems and yet
The spark is small, so godforsaken far
From hope and dreams and human minds to let
A means with flame's own every passion bar
The things all fear like rage and pain and loss
But few will try to stop the aching soul
The chosen few with gambler's luck now toss
The dice that will establish price and toll
The cost few pay but will ensure the gain
Of joy and light, that shadows can not feign
