Prologue
Fifteen year old Naomi Harlem was at her friend, Jade Robinson's house. Jade and Naomi had been best friends since they could remember. Since they lived next door, that helped their friendship grow stronger. They knew practically everything about each other. Of course, the one thing the Naomi would never ever let Jade know was that had a MAJOR crush on her older brother Josh. Josh was about five years older than Jade, who was a year older than Naomi.
Anyway, Naomi was over at Jade's house for a small tutor session. And since Jade was older, she had had all of Naomi's classes before. So if Naomi needed help with anything, then Jade could help her. While they were studying, and cramming, they were also chatting. Naomi had just had a birthday, so she was sharing the things that she got from people at school. Her party was going to be the next Saturday.
It was about five o' clock when Josh came in the room to let Jade know that dinner was ready.
"Hey kid," Josh said to Naomi.
"Hey Josh, what's up?" Naomi replied.
"Getting ready to eat dinner actually," Josh said. "I guess you should be heading on home. Your parents usually like you to be home around this time, don't they?"
"Yea. I guess so. I'll see you guys later." Naomi said, heading towards the door.
As Naomi walked across Jade's yard, she sighed. 'I wish...' she thought. Looking up at the sky, she saw a star brighter than the rest, and decided that she might as well give up.
"Mom, I'm back," Naomi said walking through her front door.
"I thought you were going to eat with the Robinson's tonight. Aren't you staying over there tonight?" Mrs. Harlem asked.
"That's tomorrow night mom," Naomi replied. Figuring that her mom forgot, she reached into the refrigerator, and pulled out a cup of yogurt. Then she went upstairs, and put on her stereo. The CD she put in was cheap frisbee like disc. It was a demo CD of Josh's band. He was the bassist, and he always invited Jade and Naomi to the performances.
Naomi sighed as she listened to the CD. 'It'll never happen. I can't keep wasting my time like this. He's in college, and I'm sure he has girlfriend.'
She flopped onto her bed, and pictured Josh playing his bass, and in this picture, he was playing just for her. She fell happily asleep to this image.
