Chapter 10 â€"Threats

I stay up most of the night writing quotes and lyrics on my jeans. I wear them to school the next day and get a few complements.

I’m laying on my bed staring at the ceiling when Mother Dearest rushes in. Without knocking, but nothing new there. She looks angry. I turn off my stereo, but keep my finger on the button just in case. Mother glares at me.

Mom: What do you have to say for yourself?

Now this is a hard question. I have no clue what I did this time. Well, I can think of a few things, but I don’t know which one she’s referring to.

Me: …

She pulls out the jeans. Oh god, this should be good. I try to remember what I wrote on there.

Mom: ‘I kill you in my dreams, I turn the other cheek during the day, I’ll kill you all’?

Huh? That is a quote from Live. Who cares?

Mom: You are a threat to other people!

That’s news to me.

Mom: You’re going to pull a Columbine!!

What?! Where the hell would I get a gun?

Mom: You would be suspended for a year if anyone saw that!!!

Whatever. I hope she leaves soon. Naturally, she doesn’t. She drones on and on and on….

Me: Get out of my room.

Mom: No!

Me: Bye…

I press the power button on my stereo and turn it up. Really loud. Mom leaves in a huff.

I sink back onto my pillows. Why can’t she leave me the hell alone?
