Mistake: Second Phase

Chapter 1: inappropriate

She sang along with the radio happily, tapping her fingers on the steering wheel to the rhythm.
The windows were rolled down to allow the breeze to pass through. She was still dressed in her
school uniform expect for the pair of tinted shades that she wore to hide her honey coloured
eyes. "We should be reaching in five." She told her passenger, eyes glued to the road. "Mew."
The kitten stretched and jumped onto her lap. "Mum and Dad should be at home. I think." Alicia
ran her fingers through her tousled hair, thinking of her parents. Her father should be happy
with her grades for the year, her mother, well, mother was a little different. "Here we are!"
she exclaimed as she turned into the driveway of number 35. She stepped out of the car with
Peanut Butter in one hand, glancing around at the familiar yet alien surroundings. She had been
away for half a year. Looking up at the mansion before her, she whispered, "Welcome home."

~~~~~~~
Alicia opened the door slowly, sticking her head in to look around. "Hello!" she yelled, taking
another step in "Anyone here?" She placed Peanut Butter on a table before dragging her suitcase
through the door and dumping it right in front of the stairs. "I should have known it was you
making all that noise!" A man with dark brown hair stepped into the room and opened his arms to
her. "Daddy!" she squealed as she jumped into his arms. Gavin laughed, "I see you haven't changed
at all, still as immature as ever." He teased her as she stuck her tongue out at him. "I have,
it's just that I'm too excited to behave now!" She replied, grinning. Gavin ruffled her hair
affectionately "So how was Tech U?" Alicia smiled "It was okay." "Really?" Gavin raised an eyebrow
"Does that mean you want to go back to COBA?" "NO!" she yelled, jumping towards him as he retreated
"I get the point, you must like Tech U a lot." Gavin observed that his daughter was turning slightly
pink "You can say that." She answered with a weird smile. Gavin was about to probe further when
they heard a low voice interrupt them "Alicia." They turned to see an exceptionally beautiful women
standing on the stairs. She had long reddish brown hair that matched Alicia's and dark brown eyes,
the colour of melted chocolate. She was obviously of mixed heritage as she had the fair complexion
of Asians. "Mother." Alicia replied solemnly, meeting the women's gaze. Gavin watched his wife
and daughter in puzzlement, wondering what each one had done to anger the other. Alicia thankfully
had inherited some of his cool temperament and not all of Electra's fiery one. "Ladies?" he looked
from one stern face to the other, each void of emotion. The corners of Alicia's mouth twitched.
"Aha, you lose!" the women on the stairs suddenly shouted, starling Gavin. Alicia pouted, "That's
not fair, I hardly moved!" "You blinked!" Electra began prancing on the steps. "I win!" Alicia
rolled her eyes "Yeah, whatever." "What's going on?" Gavin demanded. Electra turned to her husband
with an annoyed look "That was a staring match, haven't you seen one before?" she replied, referring
to the game as if it were an international sporting event. Gavin threw his arms up in defeat.
Electra turned back to Alicia "I missed you!" she said as she walked down the steps to embrace her
daughter. "Watch out!" Alicia yelled as she watched Electra trip over the suitcase and then fall
onto her. Gavin eyed the tangled mess on the floor consisting of Alicia, Electra and the contents of
Alicia's luggage. He shook his head "And people tell me how elegant the both of you are?"
~~~~~~~

"Mew." The kitten agreed. Gavin turned to see his reflection in ice blue eyes. "What's this?" he
asked, pointing to the cat as he did so. Alicia looked up from stuffing her clothes back into the
suitcase "It's a kitten." She answered, trying to get the lid to close. Gavin sighed, talking to
his wife and daughter could be so frustrating at times. He'd received a copy of her results for the
year and he was pleased that she managed to top the class even though she had began a term behind.
The answers she gave him sometimes made him wonder if this were the same person that scored four
distinctions. He tried again "What I meant was; why did you bring a cat home?" Both Alicia and
Electra were standing on top of the case. "I found it in school and adopted it. I couldn't leave a
poor defenseless animal alone in school, could I?" she gave her father her most pathetic look.
Gavin rubbed his chin as he eyed the kitten on the table. The kitten's gaze never wavering from his.
"Let's try jumping on it!" "No Mum, it'll- Ahhhhhh!" Gavin sighed again as he watched the suitcase
throw Alicia and Electra off, spilling the contents of the suitcase for the second time. Peanut
Butter seemed to shake his head at the sight of the mess surrounding them. Gavin felt a sudden
liking for the kitten "Alright, you can stay." He told the cat "I don't think you're as clumsy as
the both of them are." He glanced at the clothes scattered around the room "In fact, I don't think
anyone is."

~~~~~~~
The holidays passed quickly and soon, only two weeks were left. It was a sunny Friday afternoon and
Alicia was lounging on her bed with Peanut Butter by her side. Her room was half the size of her
dorm room and it had a connecting bathroom as well as a balcony overlooking the driveway. The first
you'd noticed when you step in is that the bed was particularly low, only about a foot off the
ground. The walls were so cluttered with posters, sketches and photographs that it's original colour
was hidden. Alicia was slacking after two months of hectic traveling; she had been to parts of Italy,
Germany and Holland. She was looking forward to some peace and rest on her last weeks before school
started. Her door swung open and Electra walked in with what looked like a bed sheet. "Don't you
ever knock?" she asked, sitting up. "A waste of energy. Here's your dress." She threw the bed sheet
at Alicia. "What dress?" Alicia pulled the sheet off her head and studied the piece of fabric.
Electra sighed impatiently "Your dress, for tonight's launch party of the new fragrance from 'Namor
Kaerf'. It's a Roman theme party and this," she gestured to the bed sheet "Is a toga dress." "This is
a bed sheet! I'm not wearing a piece of cloth out and how come I have to go to this dumb gathering?"
Electra leaned close to her daughter face and fixed her with a deadly stare "Because," she inched
closer to Alicia, making her lean further back. "If I have to go then so do you." She straightened
up and folded her arms across her chest before muttering, "Blame your father for making me go."
~~~~~~~

Alicia tugged at the hem of her dress self-consciously, how could anyone walk while wrapped in a
bed sheet? Her dress was of the lightest shade of blue; so faint it seemed white in contrast with the
tanned skin of her bare shoulder. She had tossed the leaves Electra stuck in her head the minute her
parents left her alone to socialize with the crowd. She refused to have her hair pinned up in a bun
so she wore it loose, cascading down her back. "Alicia!" she turned at the sound of her name to see
a blonde haired boy walking over to her. She plastered a smile on her face "Hi Pierre." He grabbed
her hand and kissed it while Alicia mentally puked "I didn't expect to see you here!" "Well, neither
did I." "Do you like my costume? I had it specially made for tonight." He twirled round for her to
take in his clothes. He was dressed in a purple and gold toga and he even had a laurel on his head.
"Er, nice." She answered politely. He beamed "Really? Thank you! Not everyone came in costume though,"
he paused to laugh "Look at that chap over there!" he pointed in the direction of a tall boy dressed
all in black. He looked out of place as he was the only one dressed in black and on top of that, he
was wearing a suit instead of a toga. The boy's back was facing Alicia and as she looked at him, he
turned his head slowly, meeting her gaze with ice blue eyes.
