There's a kid in every class who's feelin left out today
The cards that they pass will never come her way
and altho she tells herself it doesn't mean a thing
being left on the shelf is always gonna sting.
And when she gets home she gets a little start
there's a card with a poem and a big red heart
but in better lighting she see she was dumb
that handwriting belongs to her mum.

There's a girl in every bar who's feelin left out tonight
she's always looked over in the dating lines.
Her friends all pair off and yet she feels no hate
she just drinks enough to forget she's got no date.
And when she gets home she gets a little start
there's an emailed poem in a flashing heart
but when she look at the addie her face falls a bit
it's a card from daddy and she deletes it.

There's a woman at the office who feels left out right now
she hasn't been sent wine or chocolate or flowers.
All the others sit down and compare for awhile
she sits there and tries not to falter in her smile.
And when she gets home she gets a little start
there's a letter on the mat, envelope sealed with a heart
but as she turns it over her heart sinks again
the adress says someone else's name.

So this one's going out to those who have no valentine
I'll happily be yours if you say you'll be mine.
Lets exchange cards anon, treat ourselves to one small smile
and fool ourselves for just a little while.
And just for today lets all play make-believe
just for one day let our minds be deceived
don't read too far or the truth will be impart
just be glad of an imaginary heart.
