Not Really Here

By Ginger

I never realised how deep it was,

How far the hole goes down.

You're lying at the bottom,

But you aren't really there anymore.

You don't realise you are about

To be buried for all eternity,

Never to see the sun again

Lost forever,

Beneath nine-feet of mud.

But you aren't really there anymore

So I doubt you care.

I care though

Because I'm still here,

Watching as you are lowered

Into a deep hole.

It looks cold down there,

Cold, dark and wet.

But it means nothing to you

Because you aren't really here anymore

Are you?

You've been gone a week,

Or has it been two?

Seeing the pit you're now lying in

Finally reminds me of my loss

And the tears begin to fall.

But you don't come to comfort me

Because you aren't really here anymore.
