Chapter 1 : And Our Story Begins...
In a town called Haretis there lived a great king. His name was Alexander. He was a leader whom relied on his brain rather than his aggression. He trained knights to use magic and to purge other nations. He was literally a conquerer. Then one knight betrayed him and his kingdom. He called himself 'Diablos, Knight of Hell.' His army was far stronger thanthey ever seen. So he had no choice but to surrender his kingdom to Diablos. But there was one knight that stayed at the castle after it was destroyed. His name was Dark. Though Diablos searched everywhere for the people he could never find him.
Dark looked around and laughed. "Those fools. They couldn't even find me. But I wonder where my comrades are? Were they taken as slaves?" He looked throughout the kingdom, but it was abandoned. "Damn you, Diablos! I will have my revenge! ...I must go and rescue the king."

Sapphire sat on top of one of the stones of the destroyed castle, looking down at Dark. When he left to search for his king, Sapphire jumped off of the stone and decided to follow. She had heard of this Diablos before, she figured he might be a most powerful ally. But she didn't want to waste her time looking for him. So she pushed that option away for the time being and began to follow Dark. If need be, she would kill him, just for the fun of it. But not now, it was not the time for that yet. So she followed him in silence, watching for what he would do next.

A few hours before Dark's flee, in a quiet place about five miles from the old castle is the home of Berso and his mentor, an old prophet. They were about to sit down to lunch. The prophet had begun to bless the food. "Thank you Lord for this food. Bless Berso for gathering the items I needed to-" He stopped in mid-sentence. "What's wrong, master?" Berso asked. The old prophet replied, "Berso, I need you to go to the castle about five miles down the road."
"Whatever for?" Berso wondered aloud. "My boy, I may be old, but I know when God wants something done!" Berso sighed. "Alright, I'll go after lunch." The prophet raised his voice. "No! You must go now!" He carefully lifted a large sheath from the shelf behind him. "Here, take this with you." He handed Berso the sword. "This sword was given to me by an angel. It's name is Demonslayer. It will help you to vanquish evil spirits or exorcise demons inhabiting a person." Berso stared at his mentor, looking puzzled. "Now, go. God bless you." Berso was already halfway out the door. "I'll see you when I get back!" he called.
As Berso set off, the prophet had but one thought clouding his mind. "I won't be here when you come back, Berso." The old man whispered to himself. A dark figure materialized behind him. "You are there, old friend?" hte dark figure drew closer to the old man. "I am here." "I knew you'd come, Diablos." the prophet sighed. "Are you ready for me to take you to hell, old man?" Diablos hissed at him. "I have followed the techings of God. You may kill me in body, but you will never have my soul." Diablos was filled with rage. He struck the old man, who fell to the floor, dead.
Meanwhile, Berso had reached the castle to see a young woman jumping off a rock to follow an older man, clad in the armor of a Dark Knight. "I was sent here to follow some girl?" He shrugged and followed her silently.

Dark was becoming aware that he wasn't alone. He heard the footsteps of someone close by. He didn't bother to look back. So he went onward to the town of Grandale. 'Twas a peaceful town that had all the neccessary equipment needed for a long journey. So he decided to stop there first. He passed an item shop and went in. "Hello there, son. What can I do for ya?" The man behind the counter asked. "I'm kind of in a hurry. What do you have?" Dark addressed the man. "Well, we have some tonics, elixirs, potions, and-" Dark cut him off. "Did you say potions?" The man nodded. "How much?" the Dark Knight demanded. "I'll tell you what. I can see that you're one of King Alexander's knights. I'll sell it to ya for 100 gold coins." Dark thought. "If you make it 100 silver, you've got a deal." The man pondered this for a while and finally said, "Well, oh alright. 100 silver coins it is." Dark threw the money onto the counter and the man gave him the potion. "Thanks." Dark left the item shop in pursuit of a weaponsmith. He walked in and knocked on the counter. "Just a minute!" he heard a voice yell from the back. Finally, the weaponsmith appeared behind the counter. "What can I do ya for?" The man asked. "What all do you have?" The smith pulled some samples out of his pocket. "Well, ya see here, we got some nice iron at 200, and we just got some steel at 300, we also have gold, copper, and quartz." Dark looked over the samples. "I'll take some iron and steel." he finally decided. "Okay, I'll be right back." Dark placed the money on the counter. The smith returned with his metal. "Thank you." Dark left the weaponsmith's and headed for the inn to get some rest, and to make a new weapon.

Sapphire watched Dark go into the peaceful town of Grandale, just as she was about to enter behind him she heard someone following her. She decided not to bother herself with it now, it could just be someone going into the city just as she was. If the person continued to follow her, then she would worry about it. So she walked into the town, she figured she might as well buy supplies while she was here. She saw Dark walk into item inventory, she then saw him walk into a weaponsmith's shop. She watched him buy Iron and Steel through the window, then when he left the shop she ducked out of the way so he wouldn't see her. She then followed him to the inn. 'I'm following to close to him' she thought to herself 'I need to back off, he'll see me if I don't.' So she left quickly to the Materia shop. "Good evening ma'am. How can I help you?" The saleswoman asked. "I need a lightening, restore, fire, and ice Materia. Do you have any Summons?" Sapphire barked at her. "Yes we have summons." She replied. "Do you have Knights of the Round?" The saleswoman pulled out a box "Yes we do actually, this is our
last one." Sapphire's eyes gleamed. "All right, I'll take that one also." She was eager to get out of here and get Dark. "Anything else?" Sapphire thought for a moment "I need a Bahamut Zero." The saleswoman smiled. "Let me get that for you." a couple seconds later she returned with the Bahamut Zero summon in her hand. Sapphire glared at her "And how much will this all come
to?" The saleswoman seemed startled by her glare. "It...it will come to 2,000 gil." She said nervously. "2,000 gil!?" Sapphire squeaked. Then her eyes started to swirl with mako. The saleswoman seemed to be very startled and frightened by the girl's anger "W-well we could lower the price if you like ma'am." Sapphire grinned. "By how much?" Her eyes returned to normal. "To where you would only have to pay.....1,000 gil." Sapphire sighed "That will have to do." she threw 1,000 gil on the counter, collected her Materia, and then left.
She decided she didn't have anymore time to collect more things so she headed straight for the inn. She pulled out her Masamune and went inside the inn. She walked up to the hotel owner "Which room is a man named Dark in?" She demanded. "I do not believe he wants to be
desterbed ma'am." Sapphire raised her Masamune. "I don't care! Which room is he in!?" The man was terrified. "He's in room 7." Sapphire lowered her Masamune "Thank you." she proceeded down the hall to room 7. When she got there she listened and could hear him working on building something. She raised her foot and then kicked in the door, then
she stepped inside "Hello Dark."

To her surprise, Dark wasn't in the room. Sapphire looked everywhere for him, but couldn't find him. "Where is he?" She wondered aloud. "I'm Right here, Sapphire." a voice behind her said. He stood right behind her with his sword to her back, ready to pierce her with it. "Put the masamune down now. And give me your materia." Sapphire gave Dark the materia. "Well done, Dark. That was indeed good." She whispered to him. "Keep quiet! I knew you were following me. I could hear your footsteps! What is it that you want!?" He demanded. "I don't need to tell you anything! Do you know who I am?" She barked at him. "Do you know who I am?" Sapphire spat in his eyes. As Dark wiped the spit off his eyes, Sapphire left with her materia and her masamune. "That coward. Well, now I know what she looks like. Now I need some sleep." So Dark lied down and slept for the rest of the night.

"Damn it!" Sapphire screamed in the dead of night. "How could I let such a weakling fool me!? That is impossible! No one is supposed to sneak up on me! How could I have been so blind!?" Sapphire strode away in anger "There is only one way to resolve my anger, and if I am going to calm down....then I shall do it." She walked to the center of town. She raised her hands into the air and murmured an incantation, then, suddenly, all of the houses and stores of the peaceful town caught up in flames. "Ha ha ha! This is quite amusing, I wonder how long it will take this town to burn into ashes? But I shall not watch from here though, I must leave before Dark realizes what I have done." She walked out of the town and stood at a distance to watch the town burn. She knew Dark would try to stop the town from burning, but she was ready this time. This time, when he tried to spoil her plans again, she would attack.

The wall of smoke rose into the air. Dark knew that Sapphire would follow him again. So he decided to leave Grandale. He walked through the smoke so not to be seen. He headed for another town close by called Pertuy. There he would stock up on Materia. The materia he had was already mastered, but he didn't have much. He had Lightning, Life, Fire, Ice, Earth, and Restore. He knew that Pertuy had a summon called Hades on hand. So he reached the town and decided to buy one. "Hello there. What can I get for you?" The materia mistress asked. "I need two Materia, Poison and Hades." The materia mistress nodded and left to fetch his materia. "Thank you. That will be 1000 gil." Dark gave her the 1000 gil. "Thanks" Dark had no time to stay so he left for the Poison Swamp.

Sapphire just barely saw Dark leave the town. She still wanted to follow him but she wanted to do other things. She had an urge to kill, and she wasn't going to fix that urge by trying to kill Dark, that just wasn't possible......not yet. She decided that she would head to Pertuy. She needed more materia. And since she burned down all the shops, she couldn't buy any here. So
she left for Pertuy. When she got there she saw Dark leave the Materia shop, she moved to the
side so he wouldn't see her, and then she went into the materia shop herself. "Hello, what can I get for you?" asked the materia mistress. "I need a Life, an Earth, and a Poison materia. I also need a Hades Summon." The materia mistress left into the back room and came back with Sapphire's Life, Earth, and Poison materia "That will be 950 gil." Sapphire looked at
what was laided out on the table, and then she looked at the mistress "What about the Hades
Summon?" she asked. "Oh I'm sorry, the man that was in here a couple minutes ago took our last one." Sapphire pounded her fist on the counter and then sighed "Fine, whatever. I'll just take these." then she threw the 950 gil on the counter and left. She figured she would go pay a visit to someone she had only heard of. His name was Jason, she had heard of him once, she just couldn't remember what she heard about him. But she figured she'd pay him a visit any ways, he might be the ally she was looking for. She walked to Jason's quarters, opened the door, stepped inside, and said "Hello Jason, I want to talk with you."
* * * *
"Well, well, well. Sapphire I see you've arrived, but what can i do for you???" Jason asked her. "You need someone killed again?? who is it this time? a Paladin, or maybe an angel?? No, I know you want that Dark killed. Well, that can't happen kiddo. You see he killed my father so I don't intend to die, OK??" Jason got up and walked to the door. "I have to be going now, so leave." He walked out after Sapphire.
* * * *
Sapphire was walking down the hall when she thought to herself 'He didn't even listen to me. All he did was hear that I want Dark killed, he didn't even listen to the rest. Well....he needs to hear what I have to say.' Sapphire then turned on her heel and ran down the hall to catch up with Jason. Just as she saw him come into view she screamed "Hey Jason!" He turned around and saw Sapphire running to meet him again "I told you that I had to be going." Sapphire stopped in front of him "I know you did, but you didn't listen to everything I had to say." She pleaded. "Then talk." he sighed. "Okay I will. You only heard that I want Dark killed, you didn't wait to hear what else I had to say." she paused for a moment, and then continued "I know he killed your father, that is one reason I came to you. I figured we could be allies, it would be a most powerful allience. With this alliance, we could kill Dark together. You would have revenge against Dark for killing your father, and I would just have the fun of killing him." she paused again to make sure he was listening, when she was sure he was she continued "What do you think? Do we become allies, or do I just leave with a hatred for you too?"
