A Family Argument

In the laundry
Room, the garbage can
Is dryer sheets and
Clots of gray
Lint. Everything has
Softened whether out
Of anger
Or impatience, it is
Unclear. The lines
Between the words are
Much more important
The eggs are
Whole and uncracked,
Boiling in the
Twenty-minute water. Like last summer
When it was so
Hot and we all slept in
Strange beds,
Reading books on the French and
Indian war

The trash out by the
Street and the
Timer sounds
