Perspective (In the Long Run)

When I looked at the world some years ago,
I'd find a maze of puzzles
Intricate, enticing me to
solve them.
There were people,
but they weren't like me;
they always seemed
to get worked up over
nothing.

When I looked at the world not too long ago
I saw a realm of emotions
Intricate, enticing me to
chase them.
There were people,
and they were like me;
our hearts were intertwined
together and I found I feared
nothing.

When I look at this world-
that same world-
now,
I see a vortex of pain
Intricate, enticing me to
end it.
There are people,
but they aren't like the others;
they don't matter and
it seems I love and live for
nothing.

When I'll look at this world-
this same world-
sometime in the future,
I'll see a universe of dreams
Intricate, enticing me to
chase them.
There will be people,
and they'll be like me
in some ways, but not others,
and I know this all will mean
nothing
in the long run.

Author's Notes: Well, I'm not sure exactly what to say about this, actually. This poem was done in a style/format very similar to the one I used for "A Poet I Am". As you can see, the verses are basically the same, only showcasing different points of view and different time tenses, or whatever you might call past, present, and future. It's a poem that sort of traces my life in a general sort of way and provides a hope for the future that anyone can relate to, especially adolescents/teenagers like me with lots of painful emotions in their hearts. ^_^ That's enough sap outta me, though. You can see the point of this poem, probably, and if you can't or you'd just like an extra few words, ask me some questions at ridiculosity@hotmail.com. ^_^ Thanks for taking the time!! ~Mistress Jakira
