New England Fall
The day is gold and
cool and filled with
crunching leaves.
The dark pine scent fills
the air.
The birds stream southward,
honking and calling.
At night the Canada Geese
light on the lake to rest.
The moonlight reflects off
their silver wings.
In the day the leaves
fall from the trees,
making soft beds on the
ground.
In the evening
the bears stop munching
leaves and head for their dens.
Fall has ended.
In a few more weeks
it will be winter.
After that it will be spring.
The bears will come out of their dens,
squirrels uncurl from their secret hideaways.
Deer will start to fatten themselves
and give birth
to fawns.
But right now it is time for admiring
the beauty of
the New England Fall.
