"So that's how it is, huh?" Hartford said. He turned and walked toward the hangers.

Hartford stopped in his tracks. His eyes were wide, and he ran back to Andi. He hugged her and lifted her in the air with joy. "Of course it's not too late!" He said.

She went and scooped up her tennis ball, heading back to her own bunk, where she finally did manage to catch some sleep.

The next morning an anouncement was made. "All Pilots please report to the field at this moment."

Hartford was alrieady dressed, and geared up, ready for some excitement. He ran out to the field, where a few pilots were already gathered.

Hartford snapped to attention, hands at his side, back straight. He looked straight ahead.

The general continued. "There are a group of about six or eight German planes that were spotted flying not too far from this here spot. We have to protect our bases to the last so I have been ordered to send out a patrol of about ten to twelve men who are up for the challenge. Do I have any volunteers?"

Andi, who stood amongst th men, a bit shorter and thinner than the others. With her dirt smudged face and hair shovd into her cap she could pass as a teenage boy. She hesitated to volunteer. She wantedto, but was afraid the general may be suspicious of herif he got a closer look.

Hartford spotted Andi at the other end of the group of men. He knew that she was up to no good. He looked at her and tried to motion with his eyes for her to leave. Finally, he raised his hand.

"I'll go."

The General nodded. "Go stand over there" He pointed to a grassy area behind him.

Andi finally decided to raise her hand. If he goes she goes. She ruffed her scarf around her chin a little more and raised her hand.

"I'll go too."

Lufbery who had just gotton back from the town also volunteered to go with a few other people.

The general nodded and pointed Andi and the others over to the grassy area behind him. "I need four more people."

Andi his her face from Hartford and Lufberry, especially Hartford, knowing that they might tell her to leave.

Lufbery put a hand on her shoulder and whispered in her ear. "Don't worry, I'm not going to tell anyone. I did promise remember."

"Yo better not," she whispered back, "And if I get past Hartford, don't tell him either."

Star the Foxhound

"Of course not," Lufbery said with a smile. "I want you to fly."

Hartford saw Andi and Lufbery talking. When they stopped, Hartford walked over to Andi and grabbed her arm.

"Don't do this, okay?" He said. "Don't listen to Lufbery."
