With two sisters grown and married, Maggie was the last child at home. Kath and Lily lived in Wisconsin, over seven hours away, and Maggie missed them both terribly. She wrote often enough, and rejoiced when letters came, but year after year she pined to leave the dull little farm that her Pa could barely tend to anymore. The house itself had gone unpainted since Lily's wedding, hadn't been dusted for two months, and clothes that were supposed to be given to Katherine's children lay in stacks around the dining room, gathering thin layers of white as months went by. Upstairs, a fifteen-year-old girl sat with her dark brown hair in a childish pink bow, pencil scratching away as she penned another novel to be added to the pile underneath her bed. A cat licked itself vigourously on top of her bed. She sighed and turned to it.

"Can't you be more quiet?" she asked the frisky feline. "How am I supposed to make Mr. Worthington fall in love Cecilia with that racket?"

Downstairs, her mother called.

"Maggie!" she shouted. "Pa needs you to go into town and sell the milk and eggs."

The girl groaned.

"Ma, please, I'm trying to study!" she lied.

"Now, Margaret!"

Maggie sighed and stuffed the papers under the bed. Heaven forbid her mother see what she wrote. She grabbed the cat and went downstairs to put on her bonnet.

"Don't forget to mention the mail." Ma continued. "Kath should have sent us a letter by now."

"Yes Ma." Maggie replied, already halfway out the door.

((Her "love interest"'s name is Gregory Townsend. If you want to play him by all means - he has no real personality as of yet. Soldier, Lawyer, Political guy...))

Greg arived at the door.

Maggie just about ran past him, trying to tie her hat under her head. She came to a stop and grinned at him.

"Morning, Gregory!" she greeted.

"Morning sweetheart," he smiled.

5/23/2010 #10

She giggled and tucked back her hair bashfully.

"I'm going into town." she said. "Want to come? Or are you here to help Pa?"

"I can sneak away to be with my lady," he smiled.

5/23/2010 #12

She laughed.

"Oh, Greg."

(Remember, she's still 14.)

"Shall we go for a walk?"

"I have to sell the eggs first." she pointed out. "But after that, perhaps?"

"If you wish."

6/4/2010 #16

She smirked.

"A true gentleman would offer to accompany me there." she reminded him.

Greg amused her. Her obsession with romance novels and literature made her wish to shape him into a heartbreakingly wonderful hero, like the ones that starred in her own writings. And usually he didn't seem to mind.

"Might I have the honor of escorting you?" he chirped, presenting his elbow.

6/4/2010 #18

"You most certainly may." Maggie replied dramatically, in an English accent and taking his arm with all the grace and care of a princess. "Come, let us go to town."

He smiled as they headed off into the sunlight. He never minded play acting, she could make him into a Duke for all he cared. For even just being beside her was like seeing a Queen.

(Wow at 14 she has a guy whipped)

((Well, she had Pat wrapped around her finger until Laura was born. XD))

She skipped along.

"How've you been?" she asked in her normal voice, looking up at him with a bright smile.

(Oh Pat loves everyone :P

"Okay," he said. "I started working as printer's apprentice," he announced. "To think I'll like Ben Franklin!"

6/4/2010 #22

"That's wonderful, Greg!" she laughed. "You'll do great."

"I hope so."

6/4/2010 #24

She squeezed his arm.

"I know you will. After all, you love ink just as much as I do."

She laughed and paused.

"Speaking of which, don't let me forget, I need to buy more. I've run out again."

"Have another poem in your head?" he qestioned.

6/4/2010 #26

"I always do." she said. "It's a habit of mine to have a poem in my head at times when I have no ink or paper."

"We shall find you some," he decared as if it was quest that would take him to far edges of the earth.

6/5/2010 #28

She grinned.

"We shall indeed."

She tightened the ribbon under her chin and stepped into the store.

"Good morning, Mr. Dewhurst." she said brightly. "I brought the eggs and milk."
