:) That's not a problem at all. The point is to make your character as multidimensional as possible, right? People don't live in worlds that play out according to their "profile." And your goal is (or should be) to make your characters as close to real people as possible. That is character development. So your 'Nam vet is MORE than just a soldier. He's somebody's son/husband/boyfriend/pupil/father/brother etc... The plays are about putting your characters in different contexts to see how they behave.

So. The current Act in Life is set in a military highschool (that's what the first player set up). What would your character do in that environment? Why would he be there? Does he specialise in anything (could open the oppurtunity as a teacher)? Would he be a good recruiter maybe? Maybe he's not even part of the admin... Maybe he's a member of the community who doesn't like how the school is run? Really the possibilties are endless.

If you're still having trouble I would suject reading through the thread(s) a bit to see how others did it. Granted not all the Acts were roaring successes but theres some good stuff in there.

If after that you are STILL having trouble, feel free to suggest an Act and I'll see what I can do.

A military high school? How odd. Oh well, I'll roll with it.

Question: Can we write in first person or should we stay in general third?

You can write in first person.

Hi... I'm new at this, so- I wanted to ask-

During the plays, if I were to add to the play, how would I know when another person added after me? So that I could add more, I mean. Or do you have to keep checking back on the play?

Thanks, December

Posting in one of the DPs is just like posting anywhere in a forum. If you have email alerts on, you'll get a notice when someone has added to the thread. :)

Also, please be sure to check out Crew Listing so we can get to know you properly and give our big hardy introduction speeches about reading the rules and having fun and such. Haha!

Oh boy. This looks bad about the don't double post rule, but alas I must ask.

Duck/December, is your character Law from a story? If so, could you please clarify this in your post in Intro - Fantasy according to the template given at the head of the thread? If not, part of the rules of Dialogue Plays is that the characters must be from a story. Once it's confirmed, I can start up an Anything Goes Act and let you play. :)

Ah. I see where the confusion came from. People are getting confused about what to put where it says Brief Summary. That's a brief summary of the story, not the character.

I'm going to delete your second post, Duck, since we try to avoid clutter by not double posting. Thanks for the clarification about Law. Make sure you read the instructions at the beginning of the threads. You need to have a character name, story title and brief story summary as the minimum in Intro posts so you can edit your post to add this information in rather than making another post. Even if it's a working title, it's fine. I trust you have a story in the making. :)

is there a way to request a new Arc for Supernatural? Formally?

I'm thinking about playing with a new character, not sure yet because I'll probably need a partner, but the option would be cool :)

In a typical situation, you'd have to let the Supernatural AM end his act or whatever his will would be, but I'm not sure where he is at the moment. Before I start stepping on any toes, I'll shoot him a PM and see what's up. This is also less than typical because activity is low so I'm sure starting a new Act won't be much of a problem at all.

Just remember to introduce your new character in the Supernatural Intro thread, okay, hun? :)

Let's get down to business [to defeat the Huns?].

Before I start stepping on any toes

What's the worse that could happen? A repeat of the Mod Edit Wars of 2009 (that Bubbles TOTALLY won! :P)? XD

There's no formal routine. Just shoot the AM a PM or ask them in a post.

Tell me when you're ready for a new Arc, whether to put the current one on hold or end it, and if you have a particular premise.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Haha!

Um, well, if Potter sees this, she knows what to do now. :) Otherwise, I'll pop over to the RG or send her a PM to let her know the deal. *feels super cool and authoritative* (*and late*) Haha!

Um... I'm kind of new to the whole forum thing. I spontaneously stumbled upon your forum and thought it would be a good way to develop my character, Renesmee the Second. Can I just jump right in? Do I have to wait for another act? Where can I post her "description"? (And, FYI, Renesmee the Second is a REAL character that I came up with FOR a book series I'm writing. I did not invent her for the purpose of this forum. (I think you did mention that doing so is not allowed.)) - Sarah

I'm still pretty confused by all of this. So we're supposed to just chat with each other, acting as a character from our stories?

Where do we do this? I only see Intro threads.

And my story is an action/adventure one. I don't see any intro threads for action/adventure stories.
