The most important role of a forum is the Admin. The Lounge's Admin is: RanDUMM.

Admin: this is the author on FictionPress who created the forum. They have the following powers:

(1) Deletion of the Forum: an Admin may delete the forum they created at any time without giving warning. However, they are the only ones able to do so.

(2) Topic Creation: an Admin can create topics, or extra sections for posters to write in. An Admin also has the power to choose (a) If she/he wishes to be the only one to create topics or (b) If she/he will allow all posters in the forum to create topis.

(3) Deletion of ALL Topics: an Admin has the power to delete ALL topics in a forum, even ones that were not created by her/him.

(4) Banning of Forum Members: if an Admin does not like the conduct of posters in her/his forum she/he can choose to Ban them. This means the author can access the forum but not make posts in it. They can also choose to allow a person back into the forum at any time.

(5) Editing of ALL Posts: an Admin has the power to Edit of ALL the posts in a forum. This can pertain to language, format or any posts that break the rules the Admin has set out.

(6) Instating of Personal Rules: an Admin owns the forum they create and can choose to set up rules of her/his own, in order to allow the forum to run more smoothly. These rules are not dictated by FictionPress, but the Admin can choose to Edit or Delete posts if they feel someone has overstepped a rule they set up. They can also Ban posters who break their personal rules.

(7) Create Polls: an Admin can create a poll and attach it to any topic they choose. These polls can have any number of answers, be open or closed, and can be deleted by the Admin. No one else can delete these polls since they are created through the Admin's account on FictionPress. These polls can appear in any number of topics or on the Admin's profile.

(8) Filtering: upon creation of a forum an Admin can choose to check the "Profanity Filter." FictonPress's filter has gotten more sensitive and blocks not only known swears but also words that may pertain to genitals or body parts that are used inappropriately. The filter blocks these words by using this symbol: ***. There is no way around the filter once it is checked, but the Admin can choose to un-check this option at any time.

(9) Create Moderators: an Admin can choose certain posters to become Moderator of their forum. They do this by logging in to their account, clicking the Forums tab, Manage. There is an option called "Invite A Moderator." The Admin then enters that person's User Id, which can be found on that poster's Profile. This person can then accept or deny the invitation.

(10) Deletion of Posts: an Admin can delete ALL posts she/he deems as breaking the rules of the forum.

(11) Other Privileges: an Admin can also do the following to a topic:

(a) Lock: an Admin can choose to 'lock' a topic. If she/he does so this topic can no longer be posted in by anyone, but the existing posts can still be read.

(b) Pin: an Admin can choose to 'pin' a topic. This makes it easier to locate the topic. This just mean that a blue flag will appear to left of the topic, but posters are still allowed to make posts.

(c) Reply: an Admin can reply to a topic by selecting that option.

- All these option can be found at the bottom right hand corner of a post beneath the Pinwheel Icon next to the word Mod.

- The Admin is designated with a golden Shield located to the left of her/his Pen Name.

The second in command at a forum is/are the Moderator or Moderators. The Moderators for The Lounge are: HighOnBrokenWings and Fleur-de-lis Evans.

Moderator: this is an author on FictionPress who is active at a forum and who is hand chosen and invited by the Admin to participate in forum upkeep. The Moderator has the following powers:

(1) Topic Creation: if the Admin has chosen this option, a Moderator can create a topic.

(2) Deletion of Created Topic: a Moderator can only delete a topic she/he has created. This ensures that topics aren't deleted for no reason.

(3) Report Abuse: a Moderator can choose to report abuse they believe is going on, whether a poster is breaking site rules or the Admin's personal rules. They can find this option in the lower right hand corner of a post, by clicking on the word Mod by the pinwheel icon. All Abuse messages are directly sent to the Admin.

(4) Editing of ALL Posts: a Moderator has the power to EDIT ALL the posts on the forum. This can pertain to language, format or any posts that break the rules the Admin has set out.

(5) Deleting Posts: A Moderator has the power to delete any post, except the first voice of any topic she/he did not create. Including their own.

(6): Other Privileges: a Moderator can also do the following:

(a) Lock: a Moderator can 'lock' a post, therefore barring any future posts, but all posters can still read the previous posts.

(b) Pin: a Moderator can 'pin' a post. This just keeps the topic in one place and allows for easy location. Posts can still be made.

- These options can be found in the lower right hand corner of a post, by clicking on the word Mod by the pinwheel icon.

- Moderators are identified by a golden shield to the left of their PenName. Their names, as well as the Admin's can be found at the bottom of the page.

The third person involved in a forum is the Poster.

Poster: a Poster is any author on FictionPress.com, including the forum's Admin and Moderators. A Poster can:

(1) Topic Creation: a Poster can only create a topic if the Admin has chosen to allow everyone to create them. This is the option RanDUMM chose. However, if a Poster wishes to create a topic she/her must clear the topic with RanDUMM.

(2) Topic Deletion: a Poster can only delete topic she/her has created.

(3) Report Abuse: a Poster can locate this option by clicking on the word Mod, next to the silver pinwheel at the lower right hand corner of a post. Posters can report anyone they believe has broken a rule. This report will be sent directly to the Admin.

(4) Editing of Individual Posts: a Poster an only edit their own posts.

There are several different classifications for Posters. These indicators are given to ALL forum members and denote how long they have been on FictionPress. These indicators rise in rank and are located at the left of a Poster's Pen Name. They are:

1. Gray: This icon denotes a NEWBIE, a person who has been on FictionPress for less than one week.

2. Light Green: This icon denotes an APPRENTICE, a person who has been on FictionPress for over one week.

3. Orange: This icon denotes a CAMPER, a person who has been on FictionPress for over one month.

4. Red: This icon denotes a REGULAR, a person who has been on FictionPress for over six months.

5. Aqua: This icon denotes a FAN, a person who has been on FictionPress for over one year.

6. Blue: This icon denotes a FANATIC, a person who has been on FictionPress for over two years.

As mentioned in posts 1 & 2, the Admin and Moderator have a golden shield by their Pen Names, but have most likely been on FictionPress for at least one year.

Uh, yeah, well, I went to add a new chapter to my story, but it said the link was broken. I replaced 'property' with 'contents' but that still said it was broken. It came up on all of my other stories as well. What can I do? And what kind of glitch is this?

Hi. Your account won't work for a few days to stop spam. My account is up and running again now, and seeing as you sent this two days ago, urs should be too. Just wanted to see if it is. And the broken link thing has repaired itself on my computer everybody, so check your own!

this is about blocking users. can they still send u messages and view your stories?

Nigella00: Sometimes, when the site is undergoing massive updating in the system the links will not work. Fiction Press moderators of the site ask that if you get "a broken link" to report it and they will do their best to fix it.

xxdeedeexx: If you are a brand new member of Fiction Press you must wait 24 hours to receive your Account Acitivation e-mail. The people who run Fiction Press do this because 24 hours give them enough time to check that you are a legitimate person and to cross check the e-mail address. You have to wait 24 hours after Activation before posting stories or posting in forums. This is all under Terms of Service agreement you adhere to to get an account.

Hania: Users who are blocked should not be able to message you or review your stories. However, they can view/read your stories just like anyone else.

I'll just add that some stuff has been changed to a 2-day wait (including posting stories and creating forums) whereas others remain at 24 hours (including posting on forums)

Has anyone actually received a reply from the site admin or admin team? I wondering because the missing formatting bar is a slight trouble, but I can't seem to enter HTML metacharacters, such as & l t ; with the separating spaces removed. This makes it difficult to try to help and show others format their stories.

Okay, I have just realized I'm being a dunce. We all know that FP is brokkers while FF (FanFiction.net) is going strong, and they're both running on the same hardware and software. So, the easiest way to handle our forum posting problems is ... to use FF.net to compose our posts.

1. Go to https://login.fanfiction.net/registration.php and sign up for an account.

2. In your profile, create a forum. Go to this page https://login.fanfiction.net/forum/forums_tab_forums.php and fill out the 'Create New Forum' stuff. I'd recommend changing "Topics: All All (Registered Users) to Create Forum Topics" to the more restrictive "Topics: Only All (Moderators) to Create Forum Topics". Put some garbage in Title: and Summary:, the clic on Create New forum.

3. Go to that new forum and click on 'New Topic'.

4. In the resulting (functional, fully-featured) compose window, write, format and edit to your heart's content.

5. Click on Preview.

6. Now look at your borked FP.com forum post window (assuming it shows up at all.) If it has the word 'styles' in the upper-left corner of the window, copy and paste the contents of the FF preview pane, all nice and pretty, into the FP compose window.

If it has nothing in the compose window, click on the "HTML" button that's the rightmost of the menu bar that's directly atop the FF compose window.

This will bring up a separate window of HTML. Copy and paste that into the blank FP compose window.

===

Likewise, to edit an existing post,

1. Create a new post on FF.net, either a new topic or a reply to the existing one.

2.Click on the HTML button directly above the compose window. A new empty window should appear.

3. Open the post you wish to edit on FP.com, the broken one. It's all in HTML.

4. Copy and past the HTML into the FF.net HTML window, then press 'Update'.

5. Make edits, then upload back to FP.com as per above.

The stuff about posting to forums and editing stories also applies to fixing a profile. Give it a try.

Anybody know why I can't get to my account by entering it in the website bar at the top of my browser? I have tried to get people I know to come here and they type in www.fictionpress.com/ventus11 but when they hit enter it comes up telling them the account doesn't exist and that they are most likely using an outdated link. So anyone who wants to read my stuff has to get to my account the complicated way, come to the website, click search, select author and type in my account name. It's really kind of annoying both to myself and to the people who are interested in reading my stuff.

Whenever I try to go to Document Manager, only a few bars show up and not the whole screen. Also, there is no bold/italics/page-break lines. How can I fix this?

I have that problem too! I also can't paragraph by using the 'enter' button, and I have to put in the codey thing which is annoying cos I can't remember it so I have to look for it.

Use Fanfiction.net's Document Manager to edit all your work since they both run on the same platform. When you're done hit "Convert to HTML" and then copy+paste that into Fictionpress's Document Manager.
