Name: Lathil

Type: Planet

Physical Description: Lathil is slightly larger than Earth, with an equally wide variety of environments; there are forests, deserts, wastelands, and more. However, rainforests account for most of its land environments, by far. Roughly half of the planet's surface is covered by salt water.

Climate: Again, the climate varies depending on where you are, but for the most part, Lathil is just a little more tropical than Earth is.

Life: Many creatures live in the rainforests of this planet, almost an infinite variety. However, none of them are known to be sentient. There are signs that a massive civilization once thrived here, but it no longer exists, with only ruins to show that it ever existed.

Location: It's located near the center of the Milky Way, thousands of light years from Earth.

The hatch of the Carirn II swung upward and open as Mandar climbed out and surveyed the rainforest clearing he had landed in.

Amazing, he thought, jumping to the ground with a thump. He looked around once again, then picked a direction and started walking in it.

Among the thick groves of trees, ferns and insects, Mandar spotted many ruins of what seemed to be buildings.

"Ah..." he breathed, laying his hand on a slab of rusted metal. Rustling made him turn around sharply, where he found only a small bluish creature with big, floppy ears and a tail. It almost resembled a primate of some sort. Mandar cocked his head. The creature made an eep! noise, and mimicked him. The man focused his concentration on himself, and imagined that he was the creature. He imagined having its floppy ears, its blue skin, its tail...

Mandar felt himself shrinking, until he was eye level with the organism. He looked at his hand, which was now an exact copy of the real creature's. The latter made an interested sound, and hopped over to Mandar. Sniffing him, it cocked its head again. It then started to hop in another direction, and Mandar followed it.

(( If you don't mind me jumping aboard... ))

"We're going to be here for a while... could you get something to eat while I set up a base camp?"

"Why can't you do it? You're the one with the rifle."

"... Fair point. You set up camp."

The male nodded and set right to work on that. The female, meanwhile, disappeared into the thick vegetation, unslinging the massive rifle previously strung over her shoulder.

Near Mandar, a sudden bush rustled, as a second blue furry thing popped up. It, too, hopped over in curiosity.

However, it had barely gotten three steps before the top of its head quite suddenly exploded; a resonating blast of noise hit him at roughly the same instant.

Mandar recoiled in shock. The first animal squeaked in fear, then hopped away. Approaching the decimated creature, Mandar began morphing again. A second later he was back into his regular form, abeit with his ears a litter longer than they should have been. Furrowing his brow, he knelt by the organism, noting the color of its blood for reference if he wanted o make a believeable transformation.

It suddenly hit him that whatever had killed the animal might still be close by. He stood up, looked around, then shifted into an avian form with green feathers that slightly resembled a miniture ostrich. Mandar jumped up into a nearby tree to see what would happen.

Something rustled in the bushes again; a moment later, something emerged out of it. This thing was tall, bipedal, and mostly hairless, save for the black and pink crop of it on top of its head. Clearly human, in other words. In her hands, she carried a massive rifle, which she had set carefully into her shoulder. She looked around warily, then slung said weapon over her shoulder and knelt to examine the dead thing. She grinned to herself and picked it up. "Well, this should at least feed Roland..." She muttered to herself. "Wish the other one hadn't gotten away..."

Mandar watched the woman with interest. It wasn't often that he saw creatures that could speak... normally, he landed on ruin-populated planets in the middle of nowhere. He shifted on his tree branch, causing it to shake audiably. The man shortened the ostrich-neck slightly for more comfort, and began preparing to investigate this woman.

The woman quite suddenly whirled around; the pistol that had been at her right hip a second before resounded as a projectile whizzed by an inch from his head.

Not expecting her to do that, Mandar yelled (squawked) and fell from his perch. Upon hitting the ground (in full view of the woman) he melted into his natural form. He looked at her for a moment with his single large eye, then resumed his regular Humanoid form. Keeping both his interest in her and his slight fear at her ferocity hidden, he slowly put his arms up showing that he meant no harm.

She blinked, obviously surprised by this, and slowly lowered the weapon. "I wouldn't advise you sneak up on me like that." She said simply, holstering the weapon. "It won't do you anything but harm." Turning, she started to head back in the direction she had come.

Mandar also blinked. That was not quite the reaction he had thought would happen. Lowering his arms, he said,

"Well, I think it was more like you snuck up on me."

He pronounced 'Think' like 'thin-ck.'

She didn't look back at him. "Wrong. I snuck up on this." She briefly held the dead thing out to one side so he could see it.

He refrained from frowning. Instead, he, too, began to walk away, in the opposite direction.

Some meeting, he thought.

(he's not quite ready to let them go yet.

Got to get some sleep. Bye.)

(( See ya. ))

A few moments later, and another blast met his ears; this one, more distant and thus less ear-shattering.

After that, no more followed for the moment.

"Ah, excellent timing. I just got a fire started." Roland noted, looking up.

"That's great. Hope you like it blue and furry, because that's what I found." Alina replied, hefting the dead things (for a second had joined the first)

"It'll do just fine. Let's get cooking." Roland said, grinning widely. Alina snorted

"How about you let ME do the cooking? I don't feel like wasting all my charges." She replied.

About a mile and a half away from both Alina and Mandar, a loud crunching and ripping sound could be heard, steadily moving through the forest. The sound was faint at first, but could be heard loud above the din of the rest of the forest, as the it grew louder and louder with the passing of time.

"Something big-"

"Shh!" Alina hissed, clamping a hand over Roland's mouth. She pointed silently to a tree nearby, then hurried over to another one and quickly started climbing. Roland did the same a moment later, except he just floated up the tree instead of taking the time to climb it.

Slowly registering the noise, Mandar paused to listen. He located the source of the sound, then began jogging in that direction.

2/15/2011 #16

The thing continued its path of inadvertent destruction, while progressing in the direction, much unbeknown to it, of all three beings.

Thunder Lord Aeatos

Roland reached the top of the tree, and looked around.

"Alina, do you-"

She shot him a deathglare, and he went silent. She held up one hand and closed a fist. Roland, understanding the gesture, nodded, and his eyes glowed blue.

(( If you're wondering, he's using telekinesis to stabilize her so she doesn't get knocked out of the tree on firing. ))

2/15/2011 #18

All of a sudden, the loud crashing and stomping came to an abrupt halt. For a moment, the forest seemed back to normal. As soon as the other noise had stopped however, a horrible grinding and slashing noise started up.

Breaking into a sprint, Mandar gained speed until he came across the source of the sounds.

2/16/2011 #20

Coming into Mandar's view was the loud monstrosity. #96 was busy hacking away at a very large and very rotten tree. It was nearly half way through the the trunk and this point, and all of a sudden stopped looking at what it had done. The tree stood upright for a few moments. Then, it began to imperceptibly sway, before picking up momentum. The tree, hundreds of feet tall, the began to come hurtling towards the ground in the opposite direction. It landed with a spine snapping smash, which would have registered on the Richter scale. The fat grubs that had been eating the tree were now exposed, and the tentacled blob had itself a feast.

Roland looked over at Alina, but she wasn't looking at him. Instead, she was sighting the tentacle thing, aiming roughly at the center of said mass.

Mandar the creature with interest. Was it a native here? He crept closer to it, morphing into a small, rat-lik creature as he did so to keep from being detected.
