The purpose of this guidebook is twofold: first, it will include any tidbits of information, discoveries, knowledge, etc about the new world (which, incidentally, needs a name). Secondly, it will include some guideline rules for sticky situations. These are not ironclad rules like those in the rules section, instead they're procedures to fall back on when people can't agree. For example: the weather protocol is not an absolute rule that is required. I expect players to be able to work things out themselves and be respectful. Failing that, these recommendations can be used to avoid conflict.

All game-knowledge here is Out of Character (or Out of Nation if you prefer) unless found/observed/etc. I'll try to update this regularly, but if you want an entry added just post it here and I'll copy it into the main post.

-------------------------------------------------------------

B

Byrnians- One of the three major ethno-cultural groups of Survaek. In physical appearance, Byrnians tend to have very dark-skin, brown eyes, and black hair. In terms of other physical features, Byrnians -in several sub-ethnicities- range from Survaekom-esque to stocky frames, rounder features, and tightly-curled hair. Culturally, Byrnians are renowned for their strong sense of community, which has influenced Survaekom Populism, and for their understanding and acceptance of foreigners.

C

The Confederacy of Sesaba- A heavily industrialized nation to the point of destruction, the Sesabans are known for their general disregard for the enviornment and their coal-burning venues. The species that dwell there, Sesabans, have adapted to the enviornment, but foreigners have to wear masks and eye protection as not to be permanently physically damaged by the high levels of carbon monoxide and dioxide in the air.

D

Dragonkin- Found at 12-1. These are small, unintelligent creatures between 6 and 8 feet tall. Related to dragons, they are native to the new world. With the ability to breath fire and fly they have sometimes been domesticated are war creatures or even mounts. In their natural habitat they burrow into the plains and lay eggs, preying on large game such as buffalo.

E

Eerethea Tribe- The Eerethea are a tribe of halflings residing in the western plains. They moved to the area to follow their game prey, the mighty bison, and eventually founded a settlement, Galandal, to serve as their new ancestral home grounds. They've tamed deer native to their old home, and are looking to tame new beasts of the surrounding lands.

I

Islanders- One of the three major ethno-cultural groups of Survaek. Islanders generally have very strong builds, burnt-orange or reddish skin, brown eyes, and wavy or curly hair. Islander cultures were once very diverse, with ploytheism being the only constant, but after their multiple wars with and enslavement by the Survaekom, most have hybridized their cultures with other islanders or lost their heritage altogether.

N

Neonites- The Neonites are centered around The Mystic Spring, which has been endowed by the power of their gods. They protect it's location at all costs and fight using the power of nature and animal spirits. Right now they are growing tobacco for New Survaek in return for weapons and have created an outpost in order to have a better relation with foreigners.

R

The Reprisal- A deadly plague native to the new lands. It causes scarring and cracking of the lungs and throats, sometimes killing its victim but often leaving them with crippled breathing for life. It is known in some regions as the Fury.

Here we have the results of the disaster. As you can see, the result of the randomization was a rather nasty plague which will probably haunt the forum for a long time. Erethea now has to deal with the plague, and any colony that has had contact with Erethea in the last map period or so should consider the chances that the dormant disease was passed on. The results were randomized through die-rolls to keep them fair. If you're interested in the specifics, the randomization results to specify the plague's characteristics were as follows:

Vector: Droplet contact- meaning the disease is spread through coughing, sneezing, breathing on someone, wiping your nose and shaking someone's hand, etc.

Contagiousness was a 5/6, which is why the disease has a three week incubation period. It's very easy to spread before people even know its around.

Severity is 4/6. The disease is incapacitating for at least a week if not more, and has a lethality of about twenty percent. Oh, and even if someone survives, it can permanently damage their lungs.

Difficulty to cure is also 4/6. There's no end-all cure or vaccine to the disease, but specialized medicines (which nations have to develop) can reduce the lethality and severity.

S

Survaekom- Hailing from the powerful Survaek Empire, the Survaekom are a highly advanced people. Well-developed both in technology and society but in the midst of multiple wars, the Survaekom have established a colony -New Survaek- to further expand the empire's borders and provide additional resources for its war production. The Survaek Empire is currently headed by Emperor Yvor the Reformer.

Survaekom"'Pure"- One of the three major ethno-cultural groups of Survaek. The Survaekom "Pure" are the original Survaekom, who later expanded their borders to cover Byrnia and several islands. They generally have thin but fairly strong frames, angular facial features, dark-tan skin, eyes of some shade of brown or grey, and straight black or brown hair -aside from a small sub-ethnicity known to have curly red hair-. Most ethnic Survaekom hold to extremely rigid standards of hierarchial duty and loyalty both for subordinates to leaders and for leaders to subordinates. Historically, it has been known for emperors and nobles to abuse this hierarchy by placing most of the burden on the part of lowest subordinates, but lately, Yvorian reforms have brought a greater balance to the system.

W

Weather Protocol- First of all, general weather is established by whoever is there first, much like other discoveries about the land (such as dragonkin). The Whitefoot settled in the northern forests and described them as very cold and often snowy, so that's the kind of weather we've got. Likewise, the Erethea tribe is in a large, dry plain populated by buffalo, so that's the weather around there. Of course, these conditions have to match the map, but there's certainly room for precedent.

Now, as for specifics. The first time an aggressor marches into someone else's land, the defender sets the weather. However, after that the weather is in the control of the aggressor, by virtue of them being able to wait out fairer or preferred weather if they like. The aggressor should keep in mind that if they do decide to camp out and wait for better conditions, the defender may seize the initiative to counterattack or seek aid, and that if the attacker does not have a good supply line and resources available his men will likely suffer.

Whitefoot- The WhiteFoot and an anthropomorphic feline-human race. Although lacking in technology, these people make up for it with strong magick and a close knit community. Coming from a famine stricken island, the Whitefoot were reduced by half in their fort Akata. After fleeing the demons and meeting up with the Imeren Colony to the south, they returned to Akata to rebuild their home.

I think you should also put in the various colonies and their description, since we have been seeing a lot of new players lately. It would do them good to be able to learn about each nation in one place.

And a list of non-available colors would be good to.

I agree, and I may eventually get around to them all. Of course, if you want to write your own colony entry and post it here I'll copy it into the first post.

Alright, I'll start it out, i am completely open to suggestions:

The Neonites are centered around The Mystic Spring, which has been endowed by the power of their gods. They protect it's location at all costs and fight using the power of nature and animal spirits. Right now they are growing tobacco for New Survaek in return for weapons and have created an outpost in order to have a better relation with foreigners.

Hey Kross, did you get that animal spirit thing from the WhiteFoot, it's okay with me if you did. And speaking of the Whitefoot:

The WhiteFoot and an anthropomorphic feline-human race.

No, the Neonites actually came before the whitefoot so my argument of originality is pretty sound.

Oh, well I didn't copy of you either, I didn't even look at the Neonite thread until log after the Whitefeet were established.

I believe you, our magic is actually pretty different when you look at it.
