Anyone who's seen the show (or hasn't), feel free to join. New ship, new crew. Feel free to join the main ship, or be part of the Alliance, or even a Reaver. So if you're interested, just post in here, and we'll find a way to start up.

(Rock on. I'll probably bring Kihn back in as before, once I have more time. Maybe tomorrow night.)

(DUUUDE! You beat me to it! I was just about to make this thread. I play Jayne, I call it. He's my character! ^_^ Or do we have to make up a character?)

6/24/2010 #3

He'd reached a dead end. It was frustrating, especially given the pressure he was under to achieve the mission. And that was only from the one employer. The motivation to continue to the completion of that mission wasn't what it used to be. Which left him not only feeling the pressure and questioning his own tactics and effectiveness, but also how much he really wanted to pursue it? How much foot dragging could he get away with? Or could he, perhaps, use this lack of progress to his advantage? "The target is obviously not within our grasp yet, so we need to reach out farther. Send me." The farther they sent him, the less awareness, command and control they'd have of and over him and his actions. Maybe then he could figure out what he really needed to do.

Of course, no one need know of that internal struggle that raged. Certainly not the people he had to use along the way. And who knew? Maybe one of them would have his answer. Regardless, the man that entered the local pub on the moon just on the outskirts of the inner planets was a man of supreme authority and confidence. He walked up to the bartender, flashed an ID, and spoke in the voice of one who had no doubt he would be obeyed.

"I need to see your security footage from the last 12 hours, and I need to see it now. I'll need some space to analyse the cards."

(Abis says you all should each make up your own character, but to feel free and base it off of Jayne...)

(Addison or whoever the master of this thread is: Can we twist characters from Canon? For example can I make River sane, married, so that I can make an OC her daughter character?, though I'd ask before posting)

6/25/2010 #6

(What's an OC? I know PC and NPC, IC and OOC, but I don't know OC. If you played River's daughter, why would that violate the no PCs from the movie/TV show rule? And River was relatively sane by the end of the movie, anyway. and insane people have children. I see no reason she couldn't have had a daughter. Someone with River's characteristics interacting with someone with the characteristics of my PC, which you'll discover as we go along, would be mighty interesting.)

6/25/2010 #7
Bleeding Perfection

(Technically, playing as sane River is still in violation of the no PC's from the show rule. If you have seen the Firefly Movie [Serentity], River gains her sanity at the end, right after fighting the hordes of Reavers. Also, on the subject of River having a daughter, that would violate the Bible. She's 17.)

(Mongoose: OC stands for Original Character)

(Bleeding: I wasn't asking to be River. I just wanted to change her background so that I could make her have a daughter. The character I would role play would be her daughter, Sky.)

6/26/2010 #9
Bleeding Perfection

(So advance the story a few years?)

6/26/2010 #10

(having a daughter at the age of 17 wouldn't violate the Bible. Most of the women therein had daughters BEFORE the age of 17. and our PCs violate the law of God all of the time. WE violate the law of God all the time. So I fail to see the relevance of your point to our role playing.

Fleur, I'm not in charge, but they say it's better to ask forgiveness later than permission now. I like your idea and your writing style. Why don't you just jump in and start playing? If you want Sky to interact with my PC right away, that'd be fine, but there's no need for that. As you've done elsewhere, you could do a character establishmment post first.)

6/26/2010 #11

(Abis says, and I think he means this rpg, that the daughter thing is ok.... with no elaboration... and no, I'm not in charge here, of course not.)

6/26/2010 #12

(I'll let someone else play the bartender or others in the bar. Unless, of course, I get bored and impatient.)

6/26/2010 #13

(Ok, the River's daughter thing works fine, and If no one minds, I'd like to be the Captain. But I'll be gone two weeks. I really need a reliable person to email poists, as I can get yours through my email, so I can still kinda function on here)

(I thought I'd made a post earlier, maybe it didn't go through or someone deleted it...but there it is again)

She set the tankard down, watching the man stroll through the door. She wondered if he was a descendant of a Brown-Coat or if he was one of the inner-ring people, like the grandparents she never met. Whatever he was, he intrigued her, so she stood, dropping a few extra coins on the rough table. With a swing to her hips, and toss of her brunette hair, she walked toward him. He was authoritative and strong, no doubt. But that never intimidated Sky.

She pulled out a stool, sitting down right in front of the bar tender, to the man's left. Her jacket was done up, the gold buttons shining brightly against the black of the material. Her boots clicked against the wood as she waited impatiently to order another drink.

(I'm available at least once a day for the e-mail - post thing, if you want. But e-mails don't show up in these posts, so you'll have to find mine over on the Owl's Brood, or somewhere.)

Kihn noted the approach and presence of the woman who showed up beside him -- uncanny resemblance to the one he'd read about a while back who caused such a stir, and she clearly wanted him to notice her -- and re-focused on the bartender, who seemed to be taking his sweet time responding to the request for information. That was unusual. There were a dozen ways to Sunday he could shut this place down, all of them legal. Most bartenders jumped at the presentation of his ident card. Maybe this guy was a browncoat holdout. That would be another unusual thing, since the Alliance had backed off quite a bit in their heavy handed leadership of the outer planets, and this was hardly all that outer. Then again, Kihn himself was taking a more heavy handed approach than necessary. He pointedly dialed it back a bit.

"Look," he said, "I need that information to get my superiors off my back, but I'll give you some time to think about it. Can I just have a drink in the meantime? Prune Juice would be excellent."

He slapped some payment coins down on the counter, significantly more than would be required for the prune juice, and let the other coins in his purse jingle in the process. Money did tend to grease the wheels, as they said. And who knew? Maybe someone would try to rob him and he could make an example of them.

David Long leaned over to his friend Sky, sipping at his Shirley Temple.

"What's with you and the warmen, Sky?" he said, "They're into women more their own age, you know."

(I'm pretending like David and Sky are already friends, here. Say they work on the same boat, maybe?)

Sky smiled to herself. It took her a few seconds to remember him, but he had been in the Tanner household before. She waited till the bartender was out of ear shot before she said, "Fancy see you in these parts, Dave."

(i dunno follow her, question her make it interesting he wants information and i'm sure he wants to know who she is. is he jayne based?

6/27/2010 #21
Bleeding Perfection

(Actually, I was hoping to make it as if David and Sky already knew each other prior to the beginning of this thread, if that's okay with you. And he isn't really Jayne based. He's from a past timeline that takes place over on The Wicked RPG, originally an assassin at the ripe age of 20. He was the one man Ripper [the main bad guy] couldn't keep dead. He's a devout Christian, and is a master of weapons combat. I haven't added him in yet, but I have a first-person story six pages long highlighting his experiences with another Assassin, who works for Ripper. I'm not going to go into detail about her here, but feel free to join "The Wicked RPG" if you want to find out more. I'll go throw in the story now.)

(EDIT: David's backstory is posted over on The Wicked RPG.)

"Yeah, who knew I'd find you here?" David replied, "And still staring at warmen, no surprise."

He lowered his voice slightly, "That one there's named Kihn. Decorated soldier, his father fought for the Browncoats, if I remember right."

David had never been affiliated with either the Alliance or the Browncoats, but he had since joined up with Captain [whatever Abiz's character's name will be], also a Browncoat.

"Aye," she whispered. Since David knew her already she hadn't used one of her mind-manipulating pass IDs. "Where are you now? You never sided with anyone...smart, neither did I, siding is fatal to me, with my mother being who she is and all."

She sighed exasperatedly jumping over the bar. In less than a few moments their drinks were mixed. She took a sip of her concoction, and waited. From what she remembered of him Dave had interesting stories.

6/27/2010 #25

(incidentally, Kihn didn't fight for the browncoats. He's far too young to have fought in that war. But that doesn't mean Bleeding's character wouldn't say as much.)

6/27/2010 #26
Bleeding Perfection

(Ah, ok Mongoose. i'll change it to something more specific...)

David took a long draw on his Shirley Temple.

"I'm a weapons specialist on Captain [whatever Abiz's character's name will be]'s boat," David said, "Good pay, and even better guns on that boat. What about you? You heard anything from River lately?"

6/27/2010 #27
Fleur-de-lis Evans

Sky raised her eyebrow. She turned her head away from David. Tears burned against her closed lids, and she took a swig of Firefly, the dangerous mix of alcohol that both burned with whiskey and had the tang of tequila. "No... I haven't seen mum since," she took a deep breath. "Since that b*** Finelly sold her out to the Alliance and she was locked away. My damned father, sold his own wife for money."

She shook her head trying to control her emotions. But she couldn't. Because she had no idea what had happened to Joe, her cousin and best friend. All she knew was what her mother shouted as she was dragged away. The words rang in her mind every time she slept, which wasn't often. 'You're worse than a Reaver, Sam Finelly." and "Look to the Sky sweetheart... and remember Miranda."

6/27/2010 #28

So it was her. The daughter of River Tam. His mark. Maybe Kihn didn't have to wait for the bartender, after all.

Of course, knowing she was his mark, and actually doing what he was supposed to do with her were far different matters. If what they said of her was true, she was at least as smart as her mom, and although she hadn't received the alliance conditioning that River had, River and Mal had trained her themselves. Those two factors combined might maker her very difficult, even with all of Kihn's extensive skills. He decided to use a different approach.

"Excuse me ma'am. Sky is it? My apologies, but I couldn't help but overhear. And I have information you may want."

(at this point I tried to find some trivia about River, because my memory isn't THAT good, and failed to find it. If you know something I don't, let me know and I'll edit this post.)

He took an item from an inner pocket, and placed it gently on the counter in front of Sky. Hopefully she'd recognize it as having been precious to her mother. Without a backward glance or another word, he turned and walked out of the bar through the back door.

Bleeding Perfection

(River is a powerful psychic, and she is a living weapon with no fear. She appears to have fear at times, but it's not really there. She regained her sanity in Serenity, while on Miranda.)
