The more I think about it, the title/tagline really says it all. Cody Rochon himself is or will be "the mutant acceleration of human evolution." At least that is something that can be explored in future PSC stories.

If Cody was conceived after Matt drank the tea, as is strongly implied, it is more than possible that he inherited some mutant traits, which may be starting to emerge as he reaches adulthood. There are even some hints of this in the story, the most obvious of which is the fact that he is tall whereas the pre-mutation Matt was short. We can also surmise that Matt probably never reached his full potential because of his overriding addiction to the stuff, which is something that Cody fortunately does not share.

Martin,

Once again, a great insight! I have been going in that direction half consciously for some time, but it took your post to bring it home to me. I've said before that I believe in the possibility of mutations, however slight, which will save the human race. The PSC started out that way, at least on a mental plane, but I can easily relate to some concrete physical mutations in Cody as well. I think these would make good future stories.

Another thing that your comment makes me think of is the very connotative essence of the word "addiction." I'm sure I used it more than once in the story, but it may be too mild to describe exactly what this substance, malocambra, does to the user. The word addiction implies a vice that can be cured, like smoking or being obsessed with porn. I think Alba's tea needs a stronger qualifier. I meant it to be something so irresistible that really no one could turn away from it---hence all the more "evil" in most absolute sense of the word.

Martin,

I keep returning to your excellent review. One thing that I noted there just now is that essentially you approve and appreciate my continuation of the PSC characters, even though this limits my readership to some extent. It is like this bold font thing. It probably costs me a few readers, as has been stated, but I stick with it anyway. There are some things that one does just to please oneself. Your suggestion about future directions has not been lost either. There is a lot of YOU in my recent stories, whether you know it or not!! And thanks!!

Remember that Cody is not the only "mutant" in the club. Jared is not completely human either, and that is something you should also delve into more deeply in future episodes!

Perhaps addiction is an inadequate term relative to the malocambra! I can see it as being more of a biological imperative. This is something quite different than a drug.

When you think about it, we have evolution written into our DNA. Human beings are, at least physically, animals and so much of our behavior can be linked to animal survival drives (hunger, sex, etc.) The first dose of the tea seemed to make Mark more powerful and attractive, and thus increased his survivability quotient. It is entirely possible then that, after one taste, the body would crave this substance like no other on a deep subconscious level because of the competitive advantage that it can offer. 'Survival of the fittest'.

Martin,

The last paragraph of your last post is so DAMN good!! All I want to say is YES to it. You really can read my mind or at least summarize what my goal was. You really hit the bullseye here.

I also anxiously await your forthcoming work, which will need to be huge. How is that coming?

I received yet another PM asking me about my characters--which is normal. I wish that a good writer like you had the time to write a critical summary of who everyone is and how they fit into my so-called universe, but I know you are involved with too much other stuff for that.

Yes, Jared is also not quite human. Good point. Good material for future stories.
