Who the heck am I and why am I harassing you?

I'm a hobby writer who hasn't quite yet have anything to blight your eyes with share. I've been at it on and off and spent some time reading guides here and there. Does that qualify me to be a critic? Eh, probably not. But I would like to think that I know a thing or two to be looking out for. You probably don't care for all that, so let's get on with the "why."

I know many of you are new and inexperienced writers and it might be scary to see a negative review from me, but I want you to know that I'm not trying to shut you down or make you quit writing. I genuinely understand just how frustrating and difficult it can be to put your thoughts and idea into words. However, I also need you to understand that I'm not the 'A for effort' kind of guy nor am I the kind of guy that spends all of 5 seconds to say "I give it a B minus." I really take the time to try to figure out what's working when I like a story, and more often, what isn't when I dislike a story. I hope that by bringing it to your attention, you may get a nugget of insight. I've probably have made, or am making, a lot of the same mistakes I'm pointing out too, and that's just fine. It's all part of being a writer. If you've found my review helpful, I'm honored that you value my words. If not, I hope you don't hold it against me for saying them. Keep in mind that I'm not a full-fledged writer, so take my words with a grain of salt. Please feel free to contact me, whether it's to voice a complaint or if your're looking for a more in-depth explanation.

"But it's my story, I can do whatever I want!"

Not actually something I've encountered yet, but I thought I'd prepare these select excepts from the community guidelines in advance:

Respect the reviewers. Not all reviews will strictly praise the work.

Spell check all stories and poems. There is no excuse for not doing this.

If someone rightfully criticizes a portion of the writing, take it as a compliment that the reviewer has opted to spend his/her valuable time to help improve your writing.

The chapter system is not to be used as placeholder for non-story content such as author notes.

Entry title and summary must be rated G for all audience. No exceptions.

Copying from a previously published work (including musical lyrics) not in the public domain is not allowed.
