"Shelley Daniels and her parents moved into a cozy beach house just down the coast from the quaint beach town for the summer, but there's something fishy about it's residents. And when a dark family secret is revealed, Shelley finds herself fighting to hold onto reality. With the help of her mermaid friends, and a friendly Kelpie named David, can Shelley turn the tide and restore Cape Coral to peace?"

Cape Coral takes place in a small beach town of the same name. Shelley Daniels (Lili Reinhart) and her parents, Corey (Andrew Lincoln) and Leanne (Kelli Williams), move into a home there for the summer. When Shelley meets a group of free-spirited girls, she begins to see a whole new side to life with an energizing discovery - they're mermaids. They accept Shelley into their group and show her what life is like for mermaids in Cape Coral. But with this comes some startling information.

The girls tell Shelley about a group of men in the town who call themselves the Black Anchors (headed by Daniel Day-Lewis), whose sole mission is to see the very end of mer life in and around the cape. Shelley embarks on a journey to find a way for all species around the town to live together peacefully. She enlists the help of a new friend, a Kelpie named Davie (William Moseley), and they uncover Shelley's family has dark secrets - and ties to the Black Anchors.

War is threatened among the mermaids, Kelpies, and Unicorns of Cape Coral, but before war breaks out, the Black Anchors make their move to 'cleanse' the town of mythological peoples. Shelley and the other mermaids (Holland Roden, Virginia Gardener, Laura Harrier, Naomi Watts, Rose Leslie, and Malese Jow) band together to save the town from the evil doers, but the battle is made complicated when Shelley's heritage is called into question.
