Tidings. My nom de plume is simply Josephus, my middle name: that of the grand lineage along my mother's oldest roots.

I am primarily a poet. I pen epics in the classical cadence which relay tales of war and romance to regale you. I also write prose, but with far less frequency or fervor.

In accordance with the epic tradition, I am also a nationalist. I hail from the southeast of America. Joel Barlow, William Cullen Bryant and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow are among my greatest literary influences.

A Poem I was inspired to write by a Painting of the Virgin Mother in my grandparents' home. The Work of Art has transfixed me since I was a young child, and visiting it's Home once again last week I decided to take it to the Pen and Ink.

The Armory
A longer poem on the relationship between war and humankind. This is not an anti-war poem, nor is it a work pushing for war. It's just... about it; how we are drawn to it, even.

The Poet's Curse
A poem I wrote about poetry. More particularly, it is a poem about creative obsession, and the immense toll such devotion to the pen can take on the more measure-able successes in life... the material poverty and loneliness that comes with spiritual enlightenment and creative talent.

So Always to Tyrants
Intended in part as a condemning sentence on the monstrous infant "holiday" of "Juneteenth", a date held up as celebratory of the abolition of American slavery, a sentiment beyond noble. Yet, the very brand being propagated employs a Marxist / Communist fist and a Cross of Nero juxtaposed as it's logo. Such bold-faced trickery has always been the way of Tyrants and Demagogues.

Lullaby to a Southern Child
A poem of mine focused on the fierce cultural independence and rich Identitarian history of my very own Homeland: the American Southeast. It must be noted that a much lengthier work of mine exists elsewhere which tries a similar theme. This other work is called "The Dixiad", and although it remains incomplete at this hour, this shorter poem cannot be fully understood without it.

This work is a heartfelt love-song to the mightiest of the broad Western rivers: The wide Mississippi River, the ever-contended Rio Grande... And the deep, Canyon-graced Colorado current. May all three of these wondrous Works of God forever flow across the Continent in joyous Earthly Harmony.

Letter to a Mosquito

Credo reviews
As "If" is to Rudyard Kipling, and as "Invictus" is to William Ernest Henley: this piece of my own, is to my literary repertoire. I believe this to be my masterwork, so far, perhaps followed closely by my as-of-yet-unfinished American epic: "The Dixiad". Now, it is up to me, my pen... and time itself... to outdo it!

A Medieval Wood
The other night, I thought: "I have been taking to the pen quite often, as of late; still, I have not written a poem purely and solely pontificating on the natural world." I then promptly attempted such a simple task: and failed. Here is the otherwise-successful result.

General George S. Patton is regarded by most of the world as an American hero, by many Americans as a brave martyr, and by some bitter folk: as a cruel and overbearing conqueror; yet, few on Earth know that he was also an accomplished poet.

The Lay of Blackbeard
Sea shanties and the ballads of maritime piracy amongst them have been springing up from covered galleys since the days of the Greek Trireme. Here is my attempt at fusing the classical Victorian literary cadence with the waltz-like structure of a shanty. The theme tried: Privateer-Captain Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, terror of the Atlantic.

The Martian Convert
In light of several recent developments (a few of them involving the endeavors of billionaire Elon Musk, and likewise the potential colonization or possible terra-forming of our neighbor, the red planet), I have written a brief narrative poem detailing the capacity for Catholic mission work on a human-inhabited Mars. This piece is somewhat of joke.

The Dixiad
Here is a national epic poem for modern America, a Homeric account of the U.S. Civil War, perhaps the true gory birth-mother of this vast empire of freedom. I present to you: The Dixiad! It is a true tale of long-told history and of prophecy, yet to unfurl the full breadth of it's warlike banners... of the birth of a Western imperium... as of yet, unfinished.
