I have grazed the grass of pastures
Beside new-born lambs
And vultures alike.
I have eaten clovers of Ascona
In the dammed-up glacier bay
Where the water runs as thick as oil,
Where the rocks are streaked with bacon-fat;
Granite steppes, embedded with grapevines
Bear olive-trees in their first bloom of spring.
I have scattered dandelion fluff
Across old Roman bridges,
Beside endless hills, with mist, like cream
Floating above boulders on a mountain breeze--
Where fountains breathe life,
Hiding from the ocean
In the foggy, airy cities
Fashioned from old slate and stucco.
