from far away across the sea
came an eritrean maiden she
had a one track mind and eyes for me
half blinded in the war

with a pale young Anglican
who said he'd help her all he can
showed her Jesus and his little un-holy friend
she had no mind to please him
just say 'ta-ra' and leave him behind

Take a tried and tested philosophy, live it till it breaks into so many pieces scattered so far and wide that you could never hope to find them all again no matter how many nights you slaved away at it, microscope and heart clutched tight in your hand...Eventually, defeated, stumble back to the safety of your thoughts to create a new philosophy, build it up carefully, using your soul as scaffolding, the same as the old in all but name. Live it till it too crumbles underneath your too-eager fingernails, even as you desperately try to save the last remnants of what you imagined to be your only hope...

Repeat.

well it's a most peculiar feeling, like sunburn in the evening
with dark clouds on their way...
and you think it's most unlikely life could ever shine as brightly
once the sun has gone and the pressure's on
and the rain is here again...
