Author has written 3 stories for Young Adult.

Ok, massive restructuring of TJC underway. Going to be pretty different from what it was before. Focus will be on Alex, Lindsay, and their relationship. Other characters may appear as they relate to the two. No club, I don't think. The narrative structure will be different, telling one story and then playing with temporality to flesh out their relationship. So basically the only thing that will be the same are those two characters, plus or minus some others.

Okay. So. I know I have been gone a long time- a looong time. But. Here I am again. I want to revisit The Journalism Club, and am going to take it up for November's NaNoWriMo. I don't plan to have any concrete chapters to post before then; right now I am working on finishing up storyboarding and reimagining the whole thing. Specifically, I want to:

  • reworking the plot, and give it a cohesive plot to string the whole thing together (because apparently plot is important? just something I've heard, don't know from first-hand experience),
  • fleshing out the characters- will Alex still be the main character? Would it make sense to switch to one of the others (like Lindsay)? I want each character to have a strong and compelling enough story that they could lead on their own regardless of who ends up carrying the story,
  • creating something more timely (talking about contemporary issues, considering whether Alex- and all the other LGBTQ characters - would be out or not in a 2017 high school and what issues they would face),
  • determining which characters are essential to the story and which are not, which need to be cut and which deserve more space,
  • exploring character relationships and friendships and group dynamics.
  • Like I said up above, I doubt I will have actual chapters out before November (although I am starting on the first chapter now, so that may change if I decide I just can't wait). But. I like to post snippets of writing to my Tumblr, as a way to explore characterization, writing styles, and as a way to have something more fun on my outlines than just bullet points. If you have any interest in checking any of that out, here's a link to my Tumblr. I tag all my writing as "my writing," and tag specific works by their titles. So I'll tag anything TJC-related as "the journalism club," and if I happen to change the title, I'll just tag everything with both, so it's not a pain to find.

As of now, I have no plans to return to Saved By The Bell. It, well, was a weird combo of story/diary, my life and then not quite my life. It's kind of embarrassing just to think about... I'll keep it up, though.
