![]() There are very few past times I enjoy more than reading a great story, but not the fleeting kind that you forget after a few days, but the ones that capture your heart and blow you away. I hope one day I can write one of those. Now, as a writer I must tell you the English Language and I have this love/hate relationship. While it is my native language and I am utterly fascinated by the sheer number of words that give us the ability to find the word that can pinpoint the exact meaning we are trying to convey, grammar and spelling have been the bane of my existence since primary school. I believe I scored an eight on a spelling test once, that's eight points out of a hundred by the way. It was very traumatic for this young writer. And so, while at times I've disdained, loathed even the very practice of writing, I cannot help but fall back in love with the art of it. There is such beauty in a well written story. Whole new worlds are created with deep characters to fall in love with, heroes and villains alike. There is raw emotion so accurately portrayed it steals the breath from your lungs and the beat of your heart. I am eternally addicted to good stories. And while I fear my lack of talent and skills means I will never be one of "The Greats," the fire in my bones demands that I try. and my motto as always "Please be patient and know that I'm still learning" |
