Hello everyone,

I'm SoulSecret. To me, poetry and prose are more than art forms. They are sacred means of self expression which allow writers to use the cornucopia of linguistic possibilities to give other people a unique and intimate glimpse into one's inner world. Sometimes, my poetry is a delicately woven blend of metaphorical imagery flirting around potent subtextual meaning. Other times, my words are gruff and crude and straight to the point. My soul does not always speak the same way.

A little about me:

Name: Ash

Age: I'm twenty years old and an undergraduate college sophomore.

Gender Identity: Genderqueer, tomboi, butch, dyke. I have gone through serious periods of questioning whether or not I am FTM transgender. Some of my pieces reflect this confusion and struggle with my gender.

Location: Somewhere, United States

Religion: I grew up as a devout, passionate Catholic, and have only recently left the faith. Many of my early works include religious elements in that respect. In particular, an unhealthy obsession with the Crucifixion is an almost ubiquitous hallmark of my teenage poetry. I consider myself a secular humanist now, but I am generally not open about it in person. The whole transition out of my religion is a long, painful process. The scars will remain with me for the rest of my life.

Political View: I am liberal, progressive, feminist, and quasi-socialist. I subscribe to the Economist, take International Relations and Economics courses, and used to captain and compete in Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking in the National Forensics League. I feel it is my duty as a U.S. citizen and voter to be aware of the world around me.

Sexuality: I'm questioning my sexual orientation again, so right now I'm just calling myself queer. I am definitely more strongly attracted to women than men, but a small part of me finds men appealing in a very masculine, homosexual way. I am particularly drawn to gender nonconforming people like myself: femme guys, butch girls, genderqueer people, trans men, trans women, bigender people, genderless people, etc. Regardless of where I actually draw the lines, I know that I am the furthest thing in the world from what society wants me to be: a straight feminine cisgender woman attracted to straight masculine cisgender men.

Language: Although English is my first language, I have begun poetic experimentation in Spanish as well since my skills have reached a high level of proficiency. Although I am learning Chinese, I am nowhere near competent enough to express myself artistically in that language. I am also learning French on my own.

Hobbies: Writing, analyzing music, poetry, reading novels, public speaking, hiking, cuddling with cats and people, political debates, vegetarian cuisine, foreign languages, walking on the beach, geeking out about fandoms on tumblr, enjoying nature, and mentoring younger children in my community.

That's all for now. I hope you enjoy my poetry and prose. I always appreciate feedback on my work, and if you take the time to review my work, I will offer you the same courtesy. I am here to become a better writer and to express myself freely in my favorite media. In my eyes, the pen really is far mightier than the sword.
