About the Author:
Well, hello there. :) As you can probably guess, my name is Victoria Jane, but you can always call me VJ if you like. I'm 17/Scottish, and fresh out of high school! Finally! I love to write -- more than I love breathing, seriously -- so much so that I would love to do it professionally one day. Most of the things I write can be quite crude, violent, and dark. But I have a theory that no one will ever remember your writing unless you step on a few taboo subjects. Religion is a favourite, as everyone will notice in Dark Light as time goes on. I have an overactive imagination, and I love everything supernatural, so that's the direction most of my writing takes. But I'm also a hopeless romantic, so there's always got to be a love story, too.
Aside from writing, I also love to both play and write music. I rock a mean guitar and bass, and occasionally the drums, too, though percussion is not a particular strong point. Some of the bands that influence me are Three Days Grace -- the one and only love of my life -- The Becoming, Dead by April, Placebo, and Apocalyptica. If I was struck on a desert island and I could only take two items, one would definately have to be my iPod. I don't think I could survive without it. But like I said, I also write stuff, though I would never have enough courage to post it like I do my writing, for the simple fact is that I'm terrified of heckling. Really.
On a more personal side of thing, my religion choice is Atheist. But that doesn't mean I hate religion -- in fact, I talk about it a lot, and not in a derogatory way. I can respect other people's beliefs as long as they respect mine. After studying philosophy of religion, morality, and theology for over a year, it's hard to believe in something that had a lot of evidence against it. And I'd love to say that being an Atheist doesn't affect my writing, but it does. I swear a lot more, there's a lot more voilence, and a lot more sexual themes; but that doesn't mean my characters are bad people. And neither an I. I do have some soul, and I know my right's from my wrong's.
The love that often comes along with writing is books, and I have a lot of favourites. The following are top-notch, and I highly reccomend them: Out by Natsuo Kirino, Let The Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist (dark! very dark!), In The Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami, Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh, Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk, The Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole, The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward, The Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian, The Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris, The Night World Series by L.J. Smith.
I'm horribly terrified of rejection, so if you do review a story of mine, please be nice. And I do greatly appreciate constructive criticism. Like I said, I want to write for a living one day, so any tips or advice anyone can give me is great. Just be nice when doing it and we won't have a problem. Because, even though I can be very nice, I can also be very mean. And I'm very protective of my writing, so don't go shitting all over it. Okay? Cool. :)
