PURPLE FLURP!
I reread my reviews sometimes, after I’ve posted them. And, holy shit, do I make some mistakes. So, me = perfection? Erm. Not even close. XD.
Beta Profile:
Note:
I’m probably never going to meet FP’s requirements to be a beta-reader. If I tried, I would actually have to write, and I like editing much more than I do writing.
Preferences:
I prefer works that don’t focus on romance, works that have romance as incidental rather than as reason. Warning: I can usually stand genres and writing styles that I don’t prefer, but if a story had romance as one of its primary foci, I’m ninety-nine percent more likely to abandon it than to keep reading on the off-chance that I might be able to ignore the romance.
As for the other genres, I usually prefer high fantasy to contemporary, contemporary to science-fiction, science-fiction to supernatural, supernatural to humor and humor to angst.
Strengths:
I have a really good memory for language. I can usually pick grammar and spelling mistakes from a sentence at a glance, if I looked for them, and I will most often explain why they’re mistakes. I’ll even provide sources to back up my claims if you want them. I’m also meticulously critical of plotting and characterization, even when I don’t have to be; if there’s a plot-hole or an inconsistency with characterization, I’ll catch it.
Weaknesses:
I know very little of popular culture or the Amazingness That is Poetry. I can’t read overzealous and blatantly devout religious characters without feeling exasperated or bored.
Last but not least, I’m not an overly ‘friendly’ person. It isn’t that I cuss constantly or have a penchant for insulting anyone and everyone I dislike; it’s just that I don’t have any urges to make friends, even if I might be nice (usually). Don’t ask that I beta-read something, and then, for no apparent reason, e-mail me to tell me that your boyfriend or girlfriend just dumped you, your teacher’s an asshole, or your cat ate your homework. I might respond with something less than cordial. =P
