January 17, 2017 - Regular readers are aware that I post a story a week (usually on Tuesdays). I generally have five or six stories pre-written which allows me that weekly luxury. My work computer was hit with a virus last week - the IT guys had to wipe my hard drive clean. All my work here was on a thumb drive which was also affected. I brought the thumb drive to a local computer guru to see if he could save/retrieve anything (including the five or six stories I had ready to be published) so I'm waiting to see the status on that before I start rewriting the lost stories (I can only remember three of them!!!!!). I had a great entry for this week - Inaugurated - about a person trying to escape/avoid the inauguration ceremony and meeting someone in the wilderness - I hope he can save that one and I'll post it if he does (or start re-writing it maybe if he can't.). Computers are great - until something like this happens! :(
I was a shy, insecure, lonely kid growing up in an alcoholic family so romance wasn't something I experienced and the traumas from my youth haunt me to this day. Writing here is therapy for me.
I get most of my story ideas from real life incidents I have heard about or expeirenced myself. I keep an ear open listening for potential story ideas. Just as actors observe life, writers do too. Reading newspapers, magazines and social media can also trigger story ideas and of course stories on this site can help all of us come up with the ideas of our own.
I try to make my characters vulnerable and I like the idea of redemption, second chances, and love found.
A Disconnected Life: The Flight of Birdy Braft is by far the longest and I would like to think most developed story here, the first one I posted. It is my favorite. I'm also proud of How I Spent the Blizzard of '78 and Becoming Savinski among others.
Hillsboro, Greenville, and Blue County - frequent settings of most of the stories here - are based loosely on the area I grew up in).
