24/04/12 - I'm not dead, and I haven't given up!
Sorry for the long absence, but I have an excuse! I was actually finishing the first tome of a trilogy based on "Strawberries". That's right - I actually finished a novel-length text! (NB - by novel-length, I mean 50 000 words, like in NaNo - this being a fantasy, it'll probably end up being longer once I've finished revising it).
So I'm currently in the middle of revising it - or procrastinating like my life depends on it, because life right now is so upside-down-screwy that I just can't concentrate. In two weeks I'm moving house, and then I'll have my own space to work in. And no excuse not to. I promise I'll get down to it then.
I'm 26, I've been writing stories since I was four (before I knew how to write properly), and addicted to the Internet since I got a computer, and I never thought to find a writing community to share my writing with. Why? I don't know, maybe because I'm stupid.
Actually I think it has more to do with my fear of Internet forums and the way anonymity tends to bring out the worst in people. This particular site appeals to me because the stories are not submitted via forum. Do not take this to mean I'm hypersensitive (not any more anyway) and will troll you if you should criticize my work, even nicely. I am an adult, much as I wish I weren't.
I have this annoying tendency to start stories, get them going, then abandon them after thirty pages or so. My mother hates it. I'm figuring that if my stories are really any good, then you will hate it too, and I'm relying on you to tell me so in no uncertain terms, thus motivating me to continue.
I'm CRAP at endings.
Most of what I write is some form of fantasy, urban or historical or epic. Some of it is general fiction with supernatural elements mixed in. I also like comedy, but I'm getting worse and worse at it, because I read it less and less, and also because I live in France, and only ever speak English to my mother, and two babies I mind for work, who can't speak back yet. This may cause me to come out with words or phrases that may not sound like proper English, and it would be great if you could let me know so I can correct them.
I also have an account on FanFiction.com, but since I'm not very good at Fan Fiction, I only have one thing up there so far.
