Hello, I'm Balin Lord of Moria. I enjoy writing short stories and poems, hence my interest in Fictionpress (dot) com. I have no set goals in mind, other than to write some relatively good stuff for others and myself to read on this site.
My avatar is the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom from the Ultima computer games of the '80's and '90's. I like it because it's a spiritual symbol of sorts for the virtues that so many people strive to live for in life, and I, myself, believe that virtue is much better than vice.
Some personal things that are too private to write about here make it possible for me to write stories and poems from several perspectives and numerous subjects.
My favorite kinds of fictions to write are currently: Kids, Fable, Essay, and Humor, though sub-categories like Action, Fantasy, and Sci-Fi are not too far behind, and General fictions are sometimes good to write, too. I might try my hand at writing a Play and/or a Mythology at some point in the future.
My favorite kinds of poetry to write are currently: Life, Love, and Nature, although I'm also pretty good with Haiku poetry.
I may possibly rewrite and improve my story, "The Day Professor Woodbury Stood Nude," in the relatively near future, because I've finally decided that it could be better than it is. Because of a moderate interest I have in Harry Potter fanon, I have a strange fascination with the sorts of things that are caused by jinxes and hexes (mild and moderate dark magic, respectively) in those stories. There are two pages with long lists of these spells on the HP Fanon Wiki. And my point in saying this is, some of those jinxes and hexes produce slightly uncomfortable, but somewhat amusing, effects on their targets, and I wonder what could possibly take place if some, or many people, or even the whole Earth, could be affected by one of these weird phenomenons. A few examples from the HP Fanon Wiki include: a Babbling Jinx, which makes the target speak only gibberish, a Drooling Jinx, which makes the target drool uncontrollably, "schoolyard jinxes" like Hiccuping, Sneezing, Yawning, and Burping, a Vomiting Hex, transfigurations of the head and/or face of a human, and so on and so on.
My reason for saying all this? I'm exploring the possibility of writing and publishing some stories, some short and some a little longer, about some of these funny jinxes or hexes happening to people, innocent and non-innocent, though unlike in Harry Potter fandom, they won't always be caused by wizardry and witchcraft. In fact, some of them may never be explained, and remain a mystery to the people who fall victim to them.
