Why GirlInTheBearShapedHat?

Because I am the proud owner of a lovely, cosy knitted hat that I bought at Philadelphia International Airport, on the way to Illinois to visit family last Christmas. A hat that is shaped like a bear's face.

His name is Bradley.

Anyway, I suppose I ought to include a 'hello' somewhereabouts in here, although I thought perhaps putting it at the beginning was a little... cliché, if you will.

So yes, Hello There.

I imagine it's not hard to guess why I'm here - writing.

I write for school, for fun, to vent emotions and thoughts, to use up my spare imagination, to make my friends laugh or cry or smile or think, to relax, to escape, or to build a life or a world that would otherwise exist in insubstantial, incomplete thought form in the depths of my often-muddled brain.

I won't claim to be amazing, or the best, or the most unusual, or the most thought-provoking, because that would be (1) arrogant and (2) false.

Before you go any further, I would be most grateful if you could spare a few minutes while I set some ground rules here.

(1) If it's homophobic, you can keep it the hell off of my stuff. I'm all for LGBT rights, I have some close friends who are 'out' gay or bisexual, and there's a reason this is number one on the list. Because this damn well matters to me, got it? Good. Needed to make that absolutely clear.

(2) Criticisms - constructive only, please. The way I see it, this site is about sharing your work with people so they can enjoy it and give you feedback and help you evolve as a writer. So no sending my stuff down in flames, please. If you don't like it in any way shape or form, then don't waste your words on it. Words are precious. Save them for what you think is deserving of them.

(3) PMs are very welcome! I love talking to anyone who writes, I am willing to check out people's stuff as requested, or recommendations of anything people think is worth a look. Just... be nice okay. I'm not going to warm to anyone in real life who comes up and tells me I'm full of crap, likewise over the internet.

Also, anyone who goes on the Fanfiction sister-site, I'm there too (Jeez, there's no escape, is there?) My PenName there is GirlInTheBlueHoodie, if you do fancy a peek.

Finally, if I could choose my own name, I'd like something that's technically a girl's name but could be shortened to a boy's name. I think those are cool. For example, Christine - Chris. It's not my real name, but it's what I'm going to sign off as, methinks.

Cheers, Chris xx
