Tara and her younger brother Leo are part of a team of Astral Projectors, or humans with "detachable souls", who impersonate Exorcists in order to illegally cure mental illnesses in a Church-controlled society. As the team cures, cons, & kills their way across post-Apocalyptic America, they begin to learn the secrets of their dark new society in Anno Metere.
